Teach me how to do a burnout!!!
okay mis-leading title, but it worked. you're in here.
so I'm going to be in a burnout contest in a month and I have some general questions..
I'm going to pick up some worn down tires and completely trash them
probably find some regular *** 245/40/16 or whatever the hell came on the trans am's/firebirds stock
but my questions is, is their anyway to judge how long of a burnout I can do with said tires? I don't want to roast them till they pop, and have me stranded in the burnout box, or **** something up on my rear end or brakes or anything like that...
but I also don't want to stop the burnout, and find out I only roasted about half the tread I had left... is their any sort of rule of thumb of any kind?
like color of smoke, sounds, etc. etc.?
couldnt seem to find if any info about this subject.. I've done lots of burnouts before, but never sitting there roasting for 30-60 seconds..

My car doesn't even have traction control SUCKA!
I've used painters tape at the track, and people kinda laughed at me, and told me to spray WD-40 on everything then wipe it off after runs, or in this case burnout. so that's what I was thinking of doing. not sure if painters tape would help if the tire exploded? or you talking the cords might scratch?

I'd look for some 225/60/16 touring tires. It should be a easier size to find, and you should be able to burn them longer because of there higher tread wear rating. I hope you find some more helpful info, I have my old tires and rims stacked up in the garage just asking to get destroyed but I don't want to tare my car up or be sitting there changing a tire if/when the cops show up.

Look on craigslist for anything that'll fit on the rim who cares what size, not like you'll be driving on them. Id put a line lock on it since you have a month to prepare. My advice is bring a buddy with another car and bring a jack and the spare pair of rims/tires that you plan on doing the burnout with and go til you see sparks lol.
Make sure to get a video and post it up after lol.

LOL, I saw a video of a 3rd gen that must have been pretty rusted out because the tread went through the inner fender and out the back glass. That makes me think it may be good idea to make sure you get tires with a decent speed rating because there less likely to come apart.

I'm all for doing a long burnout and stuff, but not going to do anything thats detrimental to my car. I take a lot of pride in it.

Setup a windshield washer pump with wd-40 and run nozzles to spray on your tires. The wd-40 will "lubricate" the tire putting a lot less stress on your car, (and brakes if your not running line locks.) And the wd-40 makes an insane amount of white smoke. Plus the tires don't wear down as fast. When my buddy would bring his truck to the summer nationals in Worcester we would do this and it made tons of smoke. Plus the wd-40 made it easier to get all the rubber off the truck.
