Its been about 10yrs since ive owned an fbod, and never an a4 ls1. All have been 01/02 m6. This one i have know is a 00 a4 and i just did headers/oryp/lid/egr-air delete. A few days ago i went WOT from a dead stop and it didnt even break the tires loose...295/38/18 potenzas. I was expecting more, or maybe cause the others were manuals but i remember it was hard to keep in in a straight line.

If you can't spin with basic street tires from a dig then something is definitely not right

Yeah the traction was off. The engine made nice noises but wasnt going anywhere and was really slow going up in rpm

Maybe you've got 2.73's? Even then though, my little brothers LT1 that was stock would still spin the tires.

Have it dynoed and report back, one possibility is a bad MAF sensor they dont always set a check engine light. I would do a fuel pressure test, if you cant then change the fuel filter anyway.

that will wipe out all the learned data in the computer but i dont think thats your problem. Was it tuned for those mods?

I know the OP has already mentioned having 3.23s, but this wouldn't matter either way. Both of my 2.73 LS1 cars had no issues burning street tires from a stop even when stock and with fresh rubber. The 3.06:1 internal 1st gear of a 4L60E gives even a 2.73 car a better launch than one might expect from an old TH350/400 or 200/200-4R with similar rear gears.

An MAF cleaning and fuel pressure test are both great advice. Also, I'd get it tuned for the header swap before evaluating any performance concerns (but, of course, you'll want to make sure fuel pressure and MAF operation are proper before getting it tuned).

I agree with RPMWS6, my stock 240,000 mile Z28 with 2.73's can briefly break fresh tires loose with traction control on.

What makes you certain you have 3.23's? Does your RPO sticker show GU5? In contrast to RPM and 99 Blackbird, my car with 2.73's and very low miles wouldn't break the tires loose from a stop. There may be another problem but your description sure sounds like the way my car was with 2.73's.

Strange that we'd have such different experiences with generally the same car. When stock, my 2.73 '98 would even squeal them a bit if shocked hard from up to a 5-10mph roll, and that was with brand new 275mm BFG KDW tires on a 9" wide wheel. From a stop, an equally hard shock would result in significant traction loss. Things didn't really change in this regard with the addition of an air lid and catback. My 2.73 '02 generally experienced the same traction loss from a stop, but did grip better from a very slow roll (also on 275mm BFGs, though these wheels were a bit heavier and wider at 9.5").

the only time i could not break the tires loose with my A4 2.73's was after engine work i was throwing a code due to a teeny tiny wire off the back of the intake to the computer was broken. the car had about as much power as my nissan 4 popper.

my ex gfs 2000 z wouldnt even chirp them from a stop with 2.73s. hell we put nitto 555rs on it for the track and it couldnt do a brake stand anymore without water until we put a line lock in it but the car ran 12.7 @ 110

I wouldnt recommend racing it untuned it could be slower than stock
