For me, I'd say a radar detector. $300 isn't a lot compared to a huge speeding ticket + increased insurance rates.
What are your must haves?

You're right - LIDAR detection is not usually helpful. But LIDAR guns have several limitations that make police still keep using RADAR... they must be stationary, can't be used through glass (i.e. dash mounted aiming through the windshield), can't be used at night (by law - to avoid possible harm to driver's eyes), and they can't be used in inclement weather such as rain or fog due to light dispersion. They also suffer from off-angle inaccuracy even more than RADAR and are considerably more expensive. So most police departments still maintain a fleet of RADAR equipment that keeps detectors still a useful option. Around here, the patrol cars mostly have dash mounted RADAR guns that they leave on all the time almost like they want to announce their presence. I always have a detector (remote mount so there's nothing mounted on the windshield) in every car even though I never exceed the speed limit by enough to attract much attention... it's just nice to know when they're around so I can be conscious of other things they might be looking for (or so I can watch the moron racing up from behind me get pulled over).

If window tint counts, that's my vote.

They can be used through glass but must still be aimed
Can't be used at night (by law - to avoid possible harm to driver's eyes),
They use narrow beam IR so no visible light is emitted
Can't be used in inclement weather such as rain or fog due to light dispersion.
But they can, There is a setting on the gun to be used if it's raining or snowing, The same setting is used to shoot through glass.

We can't tint the side windows unless it's a 4-door, then it's just the tow rear windows and very back window, Well we can tint the front side but the tint is so light it's a waste of time.

Who says the law has to follow reality? I know that in Florida and at least several other states, it is not permitted for LIDAR to be used at night for fear of eye injury to drivers, regardless of whether or not that is actually possible.
I was unaware of the relatively new feature that allows some models of LIDAR guns to operate in inclement weather. I found out that it works by eliminating readings from close to the gun (about 250 feet) which could be reflections from precipitation. Of course a lot of LEOs won't operate speed traps (RADAR or LIDAR) in rain or snow simply because of driver reactions (slamming on brakes) which tend to cause more of a safety issue than speeding.

A good quality dash camera with parking mode, GPS, etc. don't go cheap. I am very happy with mine but they are coming out with superior ones. Security and insurance.
