Default What's the biggest engine I can put in a f-body Camaro

I had AAA tow my 2002 Camaro that only has 29,000 miles on it. I wasn't riding with, but the tow truck got in an accident and I have a hole in my engine block. I'm guessing he ran over a median or something. AAA will cover replacement cost, but I might as well upgrade. Best engine to put in, thanks.

How much is AAA covering? Did they give you an amount?

Not yet, they are doing an investigation and than the third party that towed it, will have to make an insurance claim. Lots of moving parts, but I had the "Premium Package" with AAA so hopefully they will take care of me.

Yeah, I bet that's not gonna be fun. Best of luck man, I'd check out what GMPP has on the shelf, SDPC is a site vendor and also sells a bunch of crate engines.

Your probably entitled to a new GM crate motor (Same displacement) and a rental till the dealer swaps it for you, I would find a rural dealer, you might be able to kick in a bit and get a nice upgrade. Unless the truck driver was found to be at fault/reckless your only likely to get the stock replacement.

That's an unfortunate turn of events. I hope it all works out in your favor. Pictures please, as that's quite an accident to put a hole the engine block.

What's the rest of the car look like now if the accident put a hole in the engine block?

As for your question, basically any LS Gen 3/Gen 4 will fit. However, if AAA or 3rd party covers the claim settlement will likely be "replacement/repair cost". With that in mind, I'd favor a low mile LS6 replacement, or maybe if available a 24x reluctor LS2 out of a 02 GTO.

I’m interested in seeing pics as well. No way you don’t have severe undercarriage damage from this accident if there is a puncture in the block. I’d imagine that insurance would total the car from what your describing. Now…if the accident involved the tow truck driver unhooking the car and doing a little burnout until the hole appeared in the block….that makes more sense.
Either way, pictures please!

Must have been towing it with the rear end in the air and the front end on the ground but they still had to have hit something big! I would be surprised if there was not also damage to your front suspension.
