He's pretty much right, well at least for any V8 worth its salt. However, he should be thinking about power to weight ratio, not purely weight. Sure an i4 may weigh less, but the power to weight ratio of the LS1 has to be considered.

Agreed...power/weight is definitely more important than weight alone. As for your question I dont know what it weighs exactly...

i believe it is about 475lbs. by comparison, a mazda two-rotor is only 50lbs lighter.

390lbs dry, without tranny. With M6 its 495, like quoted above.
According to this site, the boxer is 300lbs:
http://www.cgperformance.com/subaru_turn-key_motors.htm

Here are some links:
http://www.toy-jet.ls1fun.com/about.html
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iv-internal-engine/398927-just-got-my-ls7-crate.html
http://www.vestav8.com/FAQ.htm
^This site quotes the LS2 being 350lbs without the headers.

Lets not forget physical size, no doubt the LSx is narrower than a boxer, probably just as short too.

wow, that picture is kinda shocking. *showing his own ignorance* i just assumed that next to the LS1 (or most V8's) that an I4 would look like nothing. i guess not. then again, i do assume that the I4 is a dual OHC vs. the LS1's OHV. anyway... just surprising.

you also have to think what coems with the engine. The ls1 doesn't need a intercooler, ic pipes, turbo..ect all of that adds to the final weight of the engine.

Chuck Norris was the inspiration for the LS1. That's why they can round house kick a Mustang in the face!!!!!
