Well I almost did it today....
I almost bought a 02 Z/28 A4 with 38k miles. Acctually got to take it home for the night. But I am going to turn it down. I had them down to 14k(probaly could have gotten it for even less yet) for it but the reason why Im going to turn it down is because I dont want the auto and I know I would kicking myself later if I didnt buy exactly what I want. But there is one thing I learned from this deal is that I really really want a LS1 and WILL own one in less than 6 months. There awesome cars and have a lot of power, I might acctually be happy with stock power for a while(probaly 6 months ).
I guess there was really no point to this post so I guess thats it.

Great man...if you want the manual, hold out for it, you'll be so glad you did. My previous nice car I settled for the auto, and though I still loved the car, regretted not holding out for the manual for many years and 100k+ miles of driving it. Now I have my Z for a couple years and 40k mi so far, and soooo glad I held out for exactly what I wanted, black m6 convertible

Yea I know Its a hell of a deal (I think it is maybe not). But I dont want to make the first mistake in Hot Rodding right away, "I should have bought something else."
Oh and in the few hours Ive had it so far I already convinced a ricer he wants a Camaro. I took my brother and his friend (with a riced our Cavalier) and I gave it probaly 3/4 throttle and them two were in the back seat shitting there pants. Now he wants a Camaro.

I bought a 2000 TA with 13800 miles on it for 15,000 bucks. Not sure if it's a good deal or not, but it's an awesome car and we really like it. We wanted the a4 (wife), and it's got the GU5 axle. Ordered a Magnaflow cat back, and a lid, and that's all we plan on doing to it.

You will definately be dissapointed if you really want the M6 and don't hold out for it. I absolutely love my 6-speed. It's a blast to drive. And good luck NOT modding it... I had an SLP lid on it within 2 weeks of owning it.

I'm an A4 guy and love my car to death. I would have picked up an M6 for the same price in a heartbeat though!
Definitely hold out for what you truly want. M6 f-bodies are truly a different driving experience.

Always hold out for what you want. Never settle, or you'll be sorry later.
Personally I only like autos, and it seems like every time I've been in the market to buy another F-body all I can find are M6 cars. But I would never settle for the M6, I'm all about the auto. So I just keep looking, and I've always been glad in the end.

For me it is simple....
If your fbody is a daily driver and you commute through traffic everyday go with an automatic...
If your fbody is not a daily driver or is a daily driver but you don't face traffic get the M6...
I have an M6 Z28 but I just bought a new daily driver (05 Volvo S60R) and while I wanted to go with the manual I commute 80 miles per day in heavy traffic and went with the auto. Nothing sucks worse than bumper-to-bumper traffic..Er, except bumper-to-bumper with a stick.

Regardless of whether people think an A4 or M6 is "better" than the other, if an M6 is what you really want, then be patient. TRUST me on this. If you are patient and wait for what you truly want, you will find it.
I had been actively trying to get into an LS1 Fbody since about January of 2005, and I finally got one a few months ago back in July. At the time all the cars in my price range where around a 2000 model year, and had 40-50K miles on them. I wasn't even considering a 2002 model because all of the ones for sale locally were at LEAST $22K, regardless of miles or Chevy/Pontiac.
My preferance was an M6 with black leather, t-tops, and if possible Sunset Orange Metallic, or 2nd choice Navy Blue Metallic, Camaro or Bird didn't matter. Low and behold I come across a 2002 SOM Z28 M6 with ebony leather and t-tops with only 19K miles on it for exactly $19K, which was an awesome price compared to other Fbodies in similar condition and model year around here. I test drove it and about a week later traded my GTP in on it. I had NEVER seen a SOM colored car around this area at all, and also this one happened to be located less than 5 minutes from my work.
I could not possibly be any happier for having been patient. It might sound corny or cliche, but its true... "good things come to those who wait". And here's the end result of my patience (the car, not the girl lol):
