Muscle Car Wars
Would you all say this era of cars is going to turn into a bigger muscle car war of the days past? I think so. With all american brands now offering thier most powerful cars ever and with the help of European automakers (Buggatti, Ferrari and Porsche) id say so!

I am having a 408 with ETP LS7 heads built over at New Era Performance. This entire project (motor, trans, suspension, ect) is costing me about fifteen grand out of my pocket. And when it's all said and done I will still only be around the power level of a stock LS7 Z06 Vette
But the look on a Vette owners face when I edge him out at the track with my lowly Formula will be priceless
Then again he still gets to drive home in a bad *** looking/performing Z06. Not to mention he probably gets more tail in a weekend then I'll get in a year

Realistically I think the modern muscle era started awhile ago like the late `80's. Cars like the GNX, Turbo T/A, ZR1, and even the 5 litre Mustang are our predessors. And remember the original Muscle car era only lasted maybe 10 yrs,
This one is going on 20.

Were definitely going through one and its only getting bigger, just look at it. Even all the normal economy cars and all that are up over 200hp with some even in the mid 250s. And within the next couple of years here all the musclecars will be coming stock with over 400 where a couple of years ago the viper and z06 were at 400. Now the big boys from the factory are between 500 and 600 hp. The cars coming out of the factory are the fastest ever been built. Its a great time to be a car guy (or girl)

yep. i read an article the other day online, it was an interview of Mr. Saleen regarding the new transformer movie and the new camaro in it. (which he built) he was saying that he and chevy were in negotiations to sell SALEEN CAMAROS right from dealer lots (kinda like you can buy a roush mustang) he said that if it happens, it will be pushing 485 hp!! sorry i don't have the link, but i will try to find it. anyway, point is that there are good days ahead of us!!

Horsepower wars have been ongoing since the '50s/'60s. The only time that power levels started to decline was from the mid-'70s till the mid-'80s. Other than that dark early emissions regulated period, the OEMs have been in a continous battle to make more power throughout the years.

I dont think our need for fast cars ever left just the technology to do so and remian 50 states legal did when the laws changed in the early 70's. I'd imagine in about 5-10 years this one will end due to newer laws possibley even banning gasoline powered cars. We may all be driving hybrids. Which makes me sick.

PS. The later 3rd gen TPI 350s usually ran mid 14s stock. Just like many of the original muscle cars. By that time power was back on the rise, and the smog era of 16 second "performance" cars was well over. By '86/'87, the TPI corvettes were already back into the mid 14 second range, and the Grand Nationals/T-types were hitting low 14s high 13s stock.

I hope you're right , but with the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, I wouldn't bet on it. If the legislature swings much further to the left I'm afraid they will have all of us on bicycles just like in China, within about 10 years. Heaven help us racers if queen Hillary gets in, we'll be on roller skates.
