2008 Z06 R ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ? !
i just read something about a new Z06 "R" they're working on that supposedly will put 600 hp to the ground. i already lost the link to it, but it said that a guy from GM confirmed its existence and it's possible to show up in auto shows in early '08 or even late '07. they were having trouble with the rear suspension allowing the power to flow to the pavement. there was a picture, but other than a different hood (cowl w/ram air (MORE ram air)) it didn't look any different than the current Z06.
has anybody else heard about this beast? it's news to me, but maybe not to someone else....
now i'm going to rant for a second. let it be known that i am GM through and through, but i think Chrysler is putting the hurt on chevy with their Viper. i'm not saying it outperforms the 'vette in any way, but the viper, imo, embodies what american muscle is all about. 2 seats, "light" weight, big wheels/brakes, and a MONSTER engine. any idiot could slap together a big, alluminum V-10 and get Z06-like numbers. they just don't have to try very hard. Now, GM is no Ferrari, but they do have a lot of time and R&D in the dry-sump 427 LS7 motor. i gotta say, it's pretty impressive, esepecially with a cam and bolt-ons. But it's gotta be some kind of struggle to maintain their V-8 history and compete with a V10 brute.
i think this "struggle" is the inspiration for the new Z06 R. the current C6 Z06 is clearly a force to be recconed with, so why more power? one-upsmanship, that's why. i'd like to take time to point out that my 1994 S-10 with bolt-ons will SMOKE a brand new Mustang GT...that pretty much says where Ford is at in the musclecar race.
i'll stop there. thoughts? questions, comments, additional info?

i havent heard of the Z06 "R" before but i am guessing its the same thing as what everyone else is saying (Blue Devil, Z07, SS, etc.)
if the struggle is the inspiration for the new Z06 "R", what do you think the inspiration for the new 600hp Viper is? im thinking its the LS7 Z06. just a thought
and just a question, wasnt the V10 inthe first Vipers derived from a truck engine? if anyone can enlighten me on that thanks
oh yeah and what i hear is teh new super vette will be supercharged and could have 650hp. sounds like a monster, im sure someone else will chime in with more info

i heard the "SS" story from a friend, but i can't imagina they'll do that. there has NEVER been a SS 'vette....not that there HAS been a "R" 'vette, but...the "SS" badging was always camaro/camino/chevelle specific. "Corvette" usually was like "' 'nough said," no "SS" necessary.
the blue devil has been around for a while, this Z06 R is supposedly VERY recent....so i dunno, that's why i posted.

It'll definitely reach skyward in how much stealers overcharge. Which will turn off actual drivers of the car, because for say 140K, you could shell out for a 997 Turbo (not quite the performance, but women will say "ooooo... Porsche, ").
There will be a LOT of negative viewpoints from the bigspenders. Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche owners will be corvettes as the Z06R is to become the mustang cobra. I can't phrase an analogy very well at the moment, pardon me.
I'm kinda pessimistic towards the idea, namely because of a possible inverse proportion of sports car trim level & miles driven. (How many high mile GT2's are out there vs a Turbo)
I feel as though vast chunk of these are rarely going to be driven hard, will lounge in garages, surrounded by guys debating "which wax should i go with!! ZOMG!" (sorry, tried to sound childish).
When I think 600hp+ viper, I think "roast thy tires." <--muscle car torque monster
When I think 650hp vette, I think "garage queen." <--it's gotta be supercharged?! Come on... pleeease stay N/A, you got a LSX block! use that!
I just wish they wouldn't throw the car to the clowns who think these are meant to be investments (sorry, I've ranted into the anti-muscle car bubble talk)

Im definately looking forward to what the new vettes will bring, I think the general already has the Z06 as a bargain basement deal, I mean on paper its on par with the F430 in almost everything BUT price. Things are good! The Viper needs improvement in the handling dept(altho they have tha powa!) and Ford....I don't know what they are thinking/doing but it doesn't seem to be much in the HP dept anyways

Forget SS, Blue Devil, or Zo6r. Call it a Stingray or come up with something original. SS sounds better than the other two though. Wouldn't the LeMans racer be the Zo6r anyway?

yeah, it was taken out of the heavy duty ram trucks.. funny how people say the SRT-10 trucks had a Viper engine in them... when they just had an old Ram engine in them.
