Okay, it's like this. I don't have - but want BADLY - an LSX powered vehicle. I've been noticing that the older '98 Z28s and T/As (Vetts and Goats are for people with $$$) have fallen to reasonable prices lately, with them being somewhere int the 6-7K range. Not bad.
But 3-5k would be better. Which is exactly how far the LT1s have dropped. I could raise that much in a heartbeat and having an LT1 is almost as good...right? I don't need to remind everyone here about the almost legendary potential of the LSXs, but I am at least 2 years outside of raising that kind of dough for it. I am getting a 8 cylinder car soon either way. What do you think I should do?

Be patient.
If you were seriously of two minds about your desires in cars, I'd say get an LT1. But since you know what you want, get what you want.
Don't forget that the cars will keep on depreciating, so you may be wating for a shorter period than you think.

Wait. Keep looking and a nice car will pop up, maybe a nice deal too, even though now isn't the best time to be looking for or buying a car, it's getting nice out (or so we hope) and people are looking for a summer car to cruise around in. The time and patience will pay off. Don't settle for some lesser than what you really want.

Wow, 16 to one. well, I guess that answers that question.
I'm not so worried about the car's internals, because the guts are gonna get ripped out and beefed up anyway. I imagine myself buying a new tranny a few months after I get the thing (Which is what I'm gonna have to do for the bird I got now Ugh...) and it all goes downhill from there. So long as the chassis is good and the rear end has no problems, I'll scoop it up.
I'll wait. I'll bide my time. Those years will fly by and soon the LS1 and all her power shall be mine!

Good choice! If you went with the LT1 wanting the LS1 so bad you would have never been satisfied with it. Not to mention the nightmares the Opti would have made you suffer. As others said you can fins LSx vehicles cheap if you are patient.

I had REALLY wanted an LS1 Fbody since 2000-2001, and actively starting taking steps to get one in 2004. I finally bought mine in July 2006 after 2 years of shopping (and dealing with keeping my GTP running long enough to trade in). It sucked *** to wait that long, but the day I drove away from the dealership in an LS1 made it 110% worth the wait. I also drove a lot of LT1s along the way, which are by no means bad like some people make them out to be, but there is just something about an LS1 that makes it happen for me personally.
