Default old engine new camaro

I have seen quite a few 98+ Z28's with no drivetrain for $2000 or less. I have an old '84 5.0 ho and a 350 turbo trans.

What would it take to make it move on its own power. With no ECM what about the gages.......

Would make for a fun beater

WTF?
Misplaced engineering..You would get serious flaming on nearly every domestic car site.
That drivetrain combo would go over as well as a in punch bowl.
It's not even a decent year 5.0. engine.I think it still has flat tappet lifters.
Honestly, the only way a non LSX motor should ever go into a 98+(SBC included) Is if its a full on race car with a lift off nose & a sheet metal interior.Even then, a 454 CID LSX block based would do more to keep harmony in the universe.
C'mon..You're posting this on LS1tech..What you propose is nothing short of sacriledge.

whats wrong with a '84 ho, I thought the 305/350 sbc was smaller than a ls1. Not looking to build another race car just beat a 3.4 maybe. Would be fun in the winter or something.

Just trying to see how hard.

I don't know what that means. If I'm interpreting it right you mean my old Z28 350 was 185hp? Stock it was 190hp, and IT WOULD GET OUTRUN BY A NEW CAMRY.
After the Dart heads, 10:1 pistons,287dur .480lift cam, torquer 2 intake, 750 holley, MSD 6AL, headers, etc it dynoed at 387hp @ 5600rpm at the flywheel. If I'dve had the money at the time to put a rear end in it and some gears and tires it would've been plenty faster. That thing weighed 3850lbs with me in it.
I'm not bashing you dude, it's just sacrelidge to put a 305 in an ls1 body! A built sbc 350 maybe

The 305 is ok if you don't strap too much car to it. I like frankenstein hot rods, but never trade down with engines.
Why not get an old say 1980 Corolla and drop the motor/tranny in that? THAT would be a kickass beater!
