Whoever designed the flip out cup holder must have been correcting the person who put the regular one behind the shifter (as if there is any other place for it). It's great! It flips out and flips back in!

I have an A4 and use the flip out one more. I usually keep change and my I-pod in the one behind the shifter. For me it is a lot more comfortable of a reach to get my drink out of the flip one cause its father away. I don't like bending my arms to get things that are too close if that makes any sense to you guys. I'm right handed but drive 90% of the time with my left hand

I discovered that cupholder in a 4th gen before the car was even cranked up at the dealership. My dad and I went to test drive a V6 in '96. The salesman got in to crank up the car and i reached over and pulled out the cup holder. He said "Well... i had no idea that was there". lol

I never know the flip out was there for the longest time lol. But now like everyone else I use the one in the center console for my cell phone and keys, and the flip out one for drinks. I put one of those can air fresheners in the back cup holders.
