Default Weird Synthetic oil question

I had never heard of this before but my uncle who has been a very big Mobil1 fan claims if you put one quart of synthetic oil in and top it off with non-synthetic oil you get all the benefits of running synthetic but less cost. I didnt say outloud that I thought he was full of $hit. I think he is getting a little senile in his old age. Has anybody heard or seen any online info to support his claim?

Whadya' think, Tom

Its kinda' the other way around.Synthetic is compatible w/dino oil (same weight and viscosity). What you put in is what you drain out. $.02

How does he know you get all the benefits if he pours it in, runs it, drains it out and throws it away.
What benefits can anyone claim when that is their test?

I think he's full of it. I've had to top of my vehicle on occasion with different weights /brands of synthetic but I've never intentionally mixed dino with synth.

This is a dumb thread. Of course he's full of it. If you use 1/5 synthetic, how could you expect to get any more than 1/5 of the full synthetic benefit?

He's probably got off track thinking something about the whole dino vs. synth argument when it comes to certain things like bearings. Some people say dino oil is better for break-in period, etc., etc.

There are no magic benefits to using synth. It just works well. Dino works well too. If you change it ever 3K like I do, you can practically run anything and it won't make a difference.

But, please, God, don't let this turn into a which oil is best thread...
