Bone stock (paper air filter and all) w/ 2.73s I got 27.5 on a trip from FL to NC and back a couple weeks after I bought the car. I miss the good mileage days
I think a stock one with a decent air filter and maybe a catback might be able to clear 30mpg highway.

well, i argued with people about a month and a half ago about 30 mpg (which i DONT believe). my best milage was stock 24 hwy only. now with mods and tune i average 20.5 mpg. just my 2 cents.

02 T/A stock as a rock. 3.23 gears. all freeway driving trip about 178 miles with the air on in the middle of summer I got 26.3 mpg. Driving was normal with the cruise set at 70mph. I have my 5 yr old in the car so no WOT's for me.

When my T/A was Bone stock A4 with 3.23. I drove my T/A to Clear lake and it got about
25 MPG. I was also driving 80-90 mph on the way there and i was at WOT a couple times too. SO i think i probably could have gotten maybe 27 mpg or 28 Driving Normally. 90% highway and 10% City
Now i have SLP lid, LT, SLP loudmouth. And i Get about 18mpg 50/50 and Aggressively.

2000 a4 z28, 60,000 miles, 373 gears, 4000 stall, lid, longtubes, udp, ls6 intake, tune
3,600lb raceweight + my dad and our luggage = ~3,900lb
t-tops out/windows down, drove to st. louis from indy, drove around stl and some suburb town, did a few pulls on the highway with a t/a (40-120)
got a combined 24 mpg.
when i first bought the car (40,000 miles) it was a stone stock 273 car. 31 mpg mixed was the best, always 25+ mpg. the car always ran perfect and got 20+ mpg after modding. i NEVER drove the car sensibly. it was a weekend only car, as i have a company supplied vehicle.

ALL highway, I have 2.73 gears, and with all these mods (Torquer2 cam, 3500 stall, trans cooler, LT headers, off-road Y, magnaflow, SLP intake, SFCs, LCAs, LS6 intake, !AIR, !EGR, Alum Driveshaft, and a custom tune based on everyday drivability) cruising around 80-85mph on the turnpike. I even throttled it a couple times. I got 27 mpg in a 180 mile trip. No AC but did have windows down.
As far as in town gas mileage, the best I have done with the mods I have and 2.73 gears is 15 mpg. That was around a 180 miles on that tank as well. The stall with those gears kinda hurts it though. Plus I have a heavy foot. No AC.
In a mixed environment it varies from 17-20 mpg based on how heavy my foot is. No AC.
Car has ~115XXX miles at this time and transmission is original. 3610 race weight. Car runs 12.5XX and 12.6XX all day with 113 mph traps and horrible 1.8XX 60'.
I wish I had 3.23s but I don't care about gas mileage, actually might help me with my stall.

- 2.73
- lid, LM2, LT's
- 60-65 mph no wot
- 27*mpg (95% highway: 2 lane highway had to slow down for little towns)
*actually was like 26.7. I filled up at the same station too. Drove 170miles home, left the car parked, drove the 170 back and filled up at the same pump.
This was with no passing or anything like that. On open interstate driving it was consistent 25mpg with passing and driving ~70-75.

My STOCK A4 with 2.73's, I was DD it before I modded it:
29 MPG 90% Highway 10% City
27 Mixed (50/50)
93 Octane from Exxon ONLY. I tried using different brands, but for some reason, Exxon was always at LEAST 1 MPG better.
I did get 33 MPG driving from Ft Worth to San Antonio, that's 65MPH for 250 miles.

On my old 98 Z28 I managed a one time best of 28mpg highway driving at a constant 70mph. That was with 3.23 gears and all stock except for an SLP lid and with about 77K miles. My highway average was usually about 25-26mpg.

best i had was on the interstate when i got it with 89, probably about 28/29 is what i calculated, stock but i had a flowmaster (3:23 gears)
around town i get about 20-22, but im hard as heck on it. idk what it is, my trans am i was pretty mellow in, but every camaro ive had ive dogged the shiznit out of it lol.
these cars are pretty impressive, my v6 camaros hardly even got to 18 MPG, but theres more rolls around here than rosie o donnel lol so 3:08's didnt work

I easily got 28mpg if not more with my stock '99 z28, 2.73 gears, absolutely no work at all (even down to the paper.) Where I live there are hardly any lights even for the most part but the city part is near, so consider that mix of the two. The car was rarely on the highway except two or three times (in my ownership that is, and despite bringing it home), and it did very well on gas, around that 28pmg again but I do not remember how much better. This is when it was driven daily by the way.
Then I did catback and lid (and k&n filter) and I didn't notice any difference. Maybe there was, but not noticeable. Not DD at this point.
Sorry I don't have exact #'s, I did a "gas check" run often but I forgot the exacts since that was months ago.

My car stock with 3.23's,except lid/filter/straightpipe got a best average of 24.5mpg with normal driving.Now with 3.73's/lt's/td's I average 21-22 with 50-50 highway/city.

'99 Z28 with about 125k on it. stock 2.73 gears. I have a SLP cold air intake and lid.
I average between 21-23 in "town." i live in a pretty small town, so it's not like it's bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go traffic. i don't drive real slow with it, but i'm not wild either. there are plenty of long country backroads where i live so there plenty of chances to let 'er rip, but i don't do it that often. i try to save the fuel and my tires.
Recently, on a trip up to Seattle, i got 27.5 mpg on a full tank. that was my highest average since owning the car. i filled up right before i got on the highway, and filled up just before empty. that was almost entirely cruise control at about 75-80 mph.

I just filled up today. At least she's consistant...
I went 277.4 miles, and it took 12.5 gallons to fill. By my math I got 22.19mpg.
Although I checked my tires on a whim after I filled it,and they were all at 20psi! I filled them up to 35 front, and 30 rear. Maybe that will make a difference.
One thing I'm curious about is to where everyone is from. I imagine that people in the flatter states get better economy. I wonder if that's where all the big numbers are coming from?

I have never gotten better than 22 MPG Highway even stock. With my current mods (after I fixed my massive vacume leak) I get about 16 around town, and about 21.5 highway, steady 70 to 80 MPH without very much playing around. That is with 3.23's.

Yep now that is more realistic. I've had two auto WS6's and that is about right for 3.23's.

mine makes a 52 mile round trip daily. 60% hwy 40% city although hiway is step on the brakes then the gas then the brakes wash, rinse, repeat. this almost always involves running out the the first two gears at redline once a day. other than that driven like the old man i am. 19-20.5 mpg
got 25mph chattanoga to clarksville on I-24 went under 80 a couple times though the twisties but i ran the dog poop out of that car.
i want to play with the new lm-1 enable the lean cruise and get it set up 15.9 afr small cam, baby stall 360rwp and 30+ hiway is my goal.
