Default SS Hood Insulation

Okay guys, I'm new to LS1Tech, but I'm not really new to whole car scene. My 02 z28 got smashed up pretty good back on Dec 9 and is still in the shop. The place I took it too said I could upgrade to the factory ss hood for pretty much next to nothing (took it to a dealership and they ordered the new oem hood from another dealership in Jackson, MI). Anyhow, I know it doesn't really do **** for performance unless you're cruising at 100+, but I've been wondering . Would it help to add some sort of under hood insulation to the duct work to help help sheild the scoop from some of the engine heat? Just a random thought, but this may help eliminate some of the problems that people have been experiencing with elevated iat's while cruising around town. Don't know just my .02. BTW, they wont have my car fixed till around January 25th, and this damn pontiac G6 just isn't the same

If you want it to look bad when you pop the hood, go ahead. If you want your IAT temps down bottle feed it.

Not going for the bottle fed route. I have a lot of fabricating background and was thinking of making something up that would just fit the contours of the channels. Being a mechanical engineering grad student here at A&M I have access to a bunch of different styles of insulation and the like down in the shop. One of those, "hmmm, wonder if that would help" type thoughts.

#1 Fiberglass dosen't transfer heat real well

#2 The amount of air the engine gets through the SS hood scoop is negledgable at any speed (it's a lame setup), the 96-97 SS set up worked better IMHO.

I wouldn't waste the time. I'm sure if you checked IAT temps on a non-SS car they would be comparable to a SS car.

I dont use the hood now first I went with a air box lid then went with a SSRA kit later and that made a huge diffrence over the hood 2 10th's and 3 mph in the 1/4 so the hood is lame other than it looks sweet!
