Well I am in the process of selling my f-body. I would like to get a 6 speed trans am this summer. I have never driven an ls1 and was wondering if you guys had any pros or cons you would like to hit me with. Anything would be greatly appriceated!

Pros of a six speed:
Better gas mileage
More wrhp (less loss through drivetrain)
Higher top speed
Will last longer than 4l60e
Much more fun to drive on the street
Cons
Clutch replacement is expensive (for a proven clutch that will last i.e. Textrallia, specs are cheap and preform like it)
Not as consistent at the track as auto (due to drivers ability to launch exactly the same and shift consistently every time)
6 speeds are harder on the rear end
Thats a few off the top of my head. With that said, I will always drive 6 speed Lsx cars. But that is a personal preference. I tend to get bored with autos when cruising on the street. I would recommend test driving an auto and a manual and then making the decision for you self.

Whosnxt seemed to get this one pretty good. I really can't stress enough the "fun factor". Theres really nothing better than throwing it through all six gears. Especially in the twisties, its like driving a totally different car.
The major con that I would be concerned with, especially since it'll be a used car would be replacing the clutch.

what are your plans, goals, intentions with this new ride?
if you know how to handle a manual gear box, you'll have an incredible time every single time you sit behind the wheel

I've always had Manuals [ Rusatng unfortunately ]. I now have an A4 Z-28 and I like it a lot. I will say I'll most likely buy a M6 LS1 in the future. If you're not going to track the car that often a M6 would be perfect.
I agree with all of the Pros/Cons that were stated earlier. If you plane on tracking the car often I'd get a auto unless you have the driver mod because you'll be more consistant.
I second driving both types of transmissions and making up your mind after. Good luck.

My lt1 was an auto. I am 17 and my stick shift driving has been limited (though I can do it if I go slowly) I plan to do bolt on's at first and maybe a cam in a couple years.

well hell...get ready to replace the clutch for sure then!
the only other con for an m6 is if you live in a big city or somewhere with tons of hills with stop lights like San Fran, other that stop n go traffic when it becomes a pain to drive, and if you got a performance clutch, then a pain in your left thigh...M6 is the way to go especially for just cruising on a great day, or getting on it!

the M6 is a much stronger transmission but you might have to replace the clutch which is pricey, an auto is more consistant but the M6 will be 10 times more fun, the driving experience is completely different in an M6, a stock auto cant even touch the feeling of powershifting through the gears, the great mpg doesnt hurt either, i say m6 all the way

Everyone has already said the only cons about an LS1 6 speed. Clutch replacement is a pain, and expensive. The stock 10 bolt doesnt hold up too well to launches. Thats about it. If we were to list the Pros of our cars we would have a 600 page thread in a matter of hours. Bottom line is they kick ***, are great to drive and fun to smash through the gears, gas milege isnt all that bad until you change gears in the diff. and with the smile on your face you wont care anyway
