Cobra Vs Camaro SS
Hey just wanted to see what you think about a heads up race between an 03 Mustang Cobra and an 02 Camaro SS. Stock vs stock. All variables being the same (driver, drivetrain, etc).

Sad but true. IS a good race for a bolted ls1, but even then you are sorta of behind the 8-ball so to speak. Good news is that ls1 fbodys are much better platform cars IMO, so let the modding begin and you will be snacking on cobras.

Better platform? A forced induction car is a hell of a lot better platform then an N/A car. Just add a 2.8" pulley and a tune and you have 500hp in a cobra

Here we go again. This is the millionth thread on the subject. Already the " just add yada yada and the cobra is unstoppable" has come out. Just race the Cobra and if you lose, go get some mods. They are not the fastest cars ever built. There is always someone faster out there. Even faster than the Cobras if you can imagine that. This subject has been beaten to death.

with a cobra they is only one route FI. even full bolt-ons ls1's hall ***.
and a ive seen personally a cam only camaro rape a 480hp cobra from a roll.
but back to the topic
i believe in 02 they made a special addition mustang called the bullit mustang.
as for an 02 cobra, never seen or heard of one. even if thier was an 02 it was not supercharged so you would still beat it.

Stock vs. stock you will have issues with a 03/04. When I was intake/exhaust and 5.0 shifter, I had the chance to run one that was stock. We punched it from a 30 roll and I did a pretty decent job of being neck and neck with him until I hit the middle of third gear. All I hear was a high pitched whine come from under the hood and it was an instant two car lengths for him. It was pretty bad, and I never got raped that badly before and I raced all types of makes and models of vehicles.
I think the big problem is that they run the same tranny that we have, so the gearing advantage that we had is pretty much leveled out.

Where are all the FORD POWERED f-bodies. Go into the Hybrid section, and you will see douzens of ls1 stangs. Heres my personal favorite
https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-swaps/637163-so-here-s-game-plan-00-mustang-lsx-huge-turbo.html (and yes it was a v6, but he could have easily dropped a SC FSB in there instead)
Lets face it, all the honda/ford/toyota guys argue about whose platform is superior. Then you look around, and they all put GM motors in their cars while we all upgrade to bigger badder GM motors. Come on guys, why do people put ls1s in anything and everything, but you don't ever see F-Body cars with 4.6s (with or without a SC).
Anyhow, that is all i have to say about that..... Lets keep this thread on topic.
Stock v. Stock, 03 + SC cobra will win.

Ok. Lets just agree to disagree. Just answer one question?

The Cobra IMO is the better plateform just because its so much easyer and cheaper to make HP in addition it was built better with a forged bottom end, 32 valves, 4 cams and a Eaton Supercharger. Too bad it took Ford all that to catch up to the LS1... But I prefer LSX based engines obviously.
