Default Here's a horror story...

If you looked at my other thread you might remember I was looking at a Z28 with 120K for 3 grand. Looked like a hell of a steal.
A steal indeed. Found the car on autotrader and emailed the guy. Said he was on base in California getting ready to ship out. He said if I would give him my name and address he could figure out shipping and have autotrader act as a 3rd party on both of our behalves.
Sounded alright, figured I'd call autotrader to make sure they actually offer that service. Sure as ****, they don't do anything like that. Next thing I would have known I'd have gotten an email from autotrader@hotmail.com asking me to wire $3000 to such and such account.
Just a heads up to the few people on here that might not be aware of this, such as I was.

Here's the ad if its still around.

I would think the XXXXXX@Hotmail.com should have rasied some flags. Good thing you did give that guy anymore than your name and address...
Sorry about your luck.

Yeah, I would never do any transactions with a 3rd party because of all of the scams that have happened with it. My friend was looking at one and told me about it and I told him it was a scam and he didn't do it and sure enough it was. Also my cousin got focked by this about a year ago where he bought a brand new Harley like this and lost 20k and didn't receive any Harley. It sucks but it actually happens out there.

WTF....I seriously hate some people. Same thing almost happened to me when I saw a great deal on Craig's list. After e-mailing the guy and asking him simple questions like "can I get the complete vin number because it is missing a number, and do the back doors open up on the truck?" He would respond with how much he wanted to get this deal knocked out as soon as possible and was acting shady. Needless to say I didn't go through with that one and probably wont ever buy a vehicle online after that close call.
He couldn't even keep his story straight.

I actually did run across that great deal and it was for real. I paid $3000 for my 98 M6 Loaded Z28 with 81000 miles... But shitty deals do happen

Nah he was just using a regular email for his replies. I was saying that I probably would have gotten an email from an address such as that asking for bank account numbers or some crap.

Sorry about your luck.
Thanks man. That's honestly the most frustrating part. I'm happy I didn't end up getting screwed but I was so excited about getting the car, especially considering how hard it seems to be finding one in my price range around here.
