Pontiacs new performance truck
Anyone have a chance to go through there new issue of Hot Rod yet? They got a brief article in there about bringing the Holden Ute over from down under and putting a Pontiac badge on it and giving it a nice facelift and some good power. Its supposed to be getting the LS3 same motor they got in the G8 looks like it could be a nice new toy.

I don't know about this thing. On one hand I think it's kind of cool, but on the other hand I think it's just plain dumb.
Is there anyone out there that actually misses the El Camino?
The Aussies may like them, but then again, they like Spam too.
This car seems like a answer to a question that was never asked.

I agree with this, unfortunately. I actually thought the concept was awesome. And I miss the el camino a lot! Probably just because I've always wanted one and haven't had one yet. Oh well...

Eh, I think it looks okay. I'm actually in between a Silverado and a 5th gen for my next vehicle. So maybe, MAYBE, if they bring it over by end 2010, with an LS3 and a 6-speed, I'll get it. Otherwise, no. On the topic of looks, it's essentially a G8 missing two doors and a trunk. I fear seeing the first one of these with a camper shell. Nothing like a G8 ST Herse. To all those going "Oh, a "performance truck" won't sell. Apparently you've not bothered to LOOK at this "Truck". It's like a car, same height, same ride, same interior. Minus the rear end. Plus, I can only imagine the usefullness of the bed. Carrying your dirt bike\cruiser, etc. Plus, the lack of weight in the rear end SHOULD keep the car pretty light, making it a good rwd performance car.

whether it looks good or not is most likely not the question gm will be thinking about. After all, how many ssr's did they sell? Unless that thing gets 40 mpg it wont sell here and will be another GTO (great performance, poor sales). Sure all of us hard core guys want them produced but how much of the market do we really take up and then, how many of us will actually buy it even if we DID like how it looks.

The aussies and Kiwis eat these things up. The Falcon ute and Holden utes are everywhere down there. idk if the Pontiac version will be the same as the Holden version, but the Holden has several different engine options, with turbo V6's and such. So gas prices aren't really too much of a factor. plus gas prices down there are a bit higher and they still sell great.

I'd rather bum a friends truck and pay him some cash for when I use it.
BUT
If it had the MPG of a car I would consider getting it because I don't own a street truck but I want the ultility without the $$$ and its bad fuel milage.
I just get the feeling this is going to flop: Have the limited utility and bad fuel milage.
