Default c5 Zo6 or whipple cobra?

I have been debating on whether to buy a z06 or a cobra and stick a whipple on it. I have about 3500 to spend on either car so, which would be a better decision. Ive noticed that vette parts are extremely expensive and I probably wont be able to mod the c5 z06 very much. z06 owners responses would be greatly appreciated about their car.

You say it will be expensive to mod the Z06, but yet you think you can just "slap" on a whipple for $3500?

only a grand in Mods! what would that get you a nice cat back and air freshener?

03 Cobra's are nice cars that make decent power, but they don't handel anything like the Z06, so that is something to consider if you like twisty roads or go to trackdays.

any mods on any car will be relible at a cost, nothing is cheap.

A $100 pulley and a tune on the cobra and your at 400whp EASY. The Z will dyno stock around 360ish. You would need a tune, long tubes, exhaust and a few little odds and ends to make 400whp. And if you live at a high altitude the cobra wont lose anywhere close to the same power the Z will. The Z weighs a few 100lbs less and handles better. So its all in what YOU want. Go drive them and then make up your mind. Dont take oppinions from people who have never driven any of them.

drive them both, realize that the cobra is heavier than an fbody, then come to realize that there is only one option. I have seen the Z06's run 12.0 flat with DR's only (2 different cars), this was at a Carolina Dragway, Jackson SC. Seriously man, get a nice N20 kit, DR's, LT's and a tune and you wont need anything faster.

[/QUOTE]WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE SUPERCHARGER THATS ALREADY ON THE COBRA I WOULD JUST DO THE PULLEY UPGRADE.THOSE CARS CAN PRODUCE A TON OF HP WITH THE STOCK BLOWERS!But if you were to buy the 03 cobra and change the blower i deff by the kenny bell blowzilla! my friend has a 03 with the kenny bell on it and the car made 650hp@ 23lbs of boost not tuned.they were trying to tune it and the clutch exploded on the dyno .lol! thats some power right there.

I have driven both and was in the same boat you were! I now own a 01' Z06 and I am about to have a a custom cam and NX nitrous thrown on it! I bought it a couple of weeks ago and the next day I bought a set of LG pro long tubes and matching X pipe,Haltech CAI,SLP UD pulley, it is strong and alot more nimble in the cornering area! I need to upgrade the clutch to handle the new power but anyways it sure seems like if it has the name VETTE stamped on it the damn parts prices go up like 5X the damn cost of other performance cars! $3500 will get you exhaust, cam,CAI, and a nitrous kit which is all you need to stomp even a whippled cobra! and the vette is more like 500-600lbs lighter at least!

ZO6 >> Cobra

heres just an idea of how the weight and aerodynamic differences stack up, this just shows that the cobra is a heavy turd compared to a z06. also there was another vid floating around of a 370rwhp c5z06 and a 470rwhp cobra running pretty much neck and neck here in tampa, but i cant seem to find it (although this one is a good substitute) you can watch tons of videos of stock c5 z's pullin on pullied cobras.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPXvQOr-H20

i say z06, hands down

If you want a complete vehicle that is fast in a straight line and can turn and stop, then throw a cam in the Z06 and go. If you want to go Fast in a straight line and could care less about turning stoping, Get the cobra, throw on a pully and a solid axle and go.

I dont know how you think, but 11.0s out of the stock IRS fairs pretty well to me.... 2 whipple cobras are running 11.0s here in my area.

I own a 01 Z06 and love it death.... I had the same dilema as you when I was looking. You can make some serious power out of a 03/04 Cobra with not alot of money, but the Z06 was just an all around better car to me. The deciding factor was the driver seat.... I hated the way the Cobras driver seat felt....

My friend has an 04 Cobra with a Stg 4 port on the stock blower with supporting mods making 470rwhp and he would put 1 1/2 cars on me everytime.... Im stock making only 351rwhp, so....

You will not get a Whipple on a 03-04 cobra for $3500. The Whipple itself is around $3500. Then you have to tune the car, get bigger injectors, maybe fuel pump, etc.

You could probably get the Whipple done for about $5000 for everything.

In other words get the Z06.
