Thinking of Trading in 05 Mustang GT for 01 SS SOM Vert
Hey,
I'll first say that I'm aware this is an LS1 site so some opinions may be biased. Anyway, there is a dealer with a 2001 Camaro SS convertible in SOM with 50,000 miles on it with a 6spd tranny. It's a stunning car really!! I currently have a 2005 Mustang GT with only 5,000 miles on it. It's basically a brand new car. I had a 99 SS about two years ago and kind of miss it. I'm thinking about making a proposal to the dealership. I was thinking about doing an even trade. I'm sure that will never happen, but they've had this car on thier lot for over 6 months and I know the 05 GT's are retailing for more, especially with my low mileage. I dunno' there both great cars and each has there pros and cons, which is making this hard for me! I was looking for any feedback! Thanks!

Power wise:Mustang<SS
Looks:Mustang<SS
Color:Any colored mustang<SOM
Rarity:20 Mustangs to 1 LS1
So far it looks as the camaro owns the mustang. Then again we got 50k miles to 5k miles. 5k miles on an 05' must mean this is your weekend car. 50k miles on a ls1 isn't ****. Weekend car, the ss will last you 30 years. Plus we have a hard top vs and vert.... come on now. You want this car. I know you do. Otherwise this thread wouldn't be here. You just want people to tell you to go for it.
The mustang is 3 years newer with 45k less miles. I would think they would do an even trade in a heartbeat unless the mustang drops like a rock in value. Tell us what they are asking for the SS.
Overall, I think you will be glad if you go with the camaro!

Plus EVERYONE drives some sorta mustang. So people don't really pay attention to them. But if you see a Camaro its a different story because you don't see those as often. And SOM is a ******* amazing color. Like BlkBird2000 said 50k miles isnt ****. But then it just all comes down to what you truly want.

Hands Down Camaro!! Everyone and there moms own a mustang anymore these days. I live in a little hick *** town with less than 2500 people in it and i bet you there is about 50 mustangs here vs 5 F-bodys.

the camaro owns the mustang in every performance department there is...the interior is subjective to what you like...i myself prefer the cockpit, low to the ground, laid out interior of the Fbody VS the Mustangs....the miles are the only deciding factor here if you ask me and 50k on a LS1 isnt ****....pull the cam and add some supporting mods and have a nice (coveted by most) car!

Wow, thanks for the replies. It seems there's a lot more love for the Camaro!! What makes this hard is I'm in Canada, so $ values are a little different then the U.S. The dealer is asking $18,500 for the car. They had it at $22,000 for the lonest time, then droped it to $19,500, then $18,500! My dillemma is that this has to be an even trade though. I'm certain, as much as I don't want to say it, this deal will never happen! Unless, of course they want it gone. They've has the car for a long, long time. Plus my car is new with virtually no mileage. Like Blkbird 2000 said, they may trade in a heartbeat. I know the asking prices of my 05 GT with that mileage is anywhere from $21K to $24K. The prices in Canada are quite different. Here's the link..... http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...6&adid=6885570

I wouldn't do it. I mean, I would rather OWN the camaro, but you are essentially trading for something worth far less money. Its 4 years newer, and has 1/20th the miles. I believe that the msrps of the two cars where comprable as well.
However, from a fun factor i would rather OWN the camaro, and cars aren't really investments so if your feeling it I don't really see a problem with going ahead with it. Certainly wouldn't pay any money over the top though.

As much as I prefer the Camaro, I too would probably not make the trade. An '05 car with 5k to get an 01' car with 50k -- The Camaro could still be the better car, I would just feel like I am losing too much much through the trade.
But on the upside -- I would have a hard time believing that dealership wouldn't make that trade straight up.

just mod your mustang and keep it. i dont see paying extra 4,000 for a car with more miles and 7yrs old....
if you do want a f-body, just sell yours out right then go buy one from this site, stealership is $$$

I bought a new 07 Mustang GT in 10/06....kept it for about a year and sold it to a person in Florida. I bought it for $25,500 and sold it for $22,500 with only 2,100 miles on it. I sold it to buy a 2000 WS6 with 45K on it.
Don't trade your car in.....try to sell it first. I bet you can get 19-20k for it.

Can you afford to sell the Mustang outright? I mean, I could see if you were trying to trade for a Viper or something, but a seven year old F-body with TEN TIMES the mileage? Considering the mileage, the price doesn't seem to excellent to me... Regardless of performance advantage, it's over TWICE the age and isn't worth what your Mustang is.
If you're dead set on getting the thing, go for it.
.......but you'd be getting one in the ***.
Look around on here, man. There are plenty of deals to be had. You could even post the Mustang up on here. If you're willing to trade for something like that, why not try and sell it outright? You might be able to get it out quick if you sell a little less than the next guy.
Don't let lust cloud your logic and good judgment. You'll get burned that way. There are plenty Camaros to go around, so take your time and don't get stuck on this one.

hi,
i sell cars both in work and indipended, i like the fbodys better, i.m.o the last of the bread, but do not do this trade, they are just negative for you as an investment,
if you want a fbody, sell the stang, and then find the fbody you like for the money you have
