Why are LS1 aftermarket parts so expensive?
Compared to the Mustang aftermarket. I was a Mustang fan and had a few different ones and it seems like their parts were A LOT cheaper price wise. AFR heads were $1300 new compared to SBC heads LSx cost like $4k.
Is it just because there are more Mustangs?
I'am diving into the LS1 Gm world pretty soon and was in a price shock when I saw a lot of aftermarket prices doubled from Ford.

Yes, their are a lot more Mustangs, which helps them keep prices lower.

Check your prices. There are lots of options, from general GM upgrads like an LS6 intake to a full blown custom intake. With more options there are generally more competive prices. LS1 is not too bad.
Compare when you want to do a engine swap as well, that is where GM shines. Everything is interchangable, can't say that with Ford.

Where did you find AFR heads for $4k? That's almost two pair of LS1 AFR heads.

Even being 11yrs old, the lsx platform is still relatively new. Aftermarket parts have already come down a little bit in price compared to just a few years ago, and that will continue to be the trend as new technology emerges. Try being a SBC guy and diving into the lsx world, talk about a price jump!! I still can't believe the cheapest forged lsx stroker crank is $1k.......they're less than half that price in SBC land.

Is the OP talking about 5 liter parts? Because the last time I looked, 4.6 stuff was alot more than LSX stuff.
Although maybe he looked at the price of a FAST intake. That frickin' thing ought to be gold plated for what they charge for it. Other than that though, I don't think LSX parts are crazy expensive.
I'd say if budget is the ultimate concern, a Gen 1 SBC is the way to go.

because ls1 is what everyone wants now,and they become more and more popular everyday, also i think the vette tax does have a little bit to do with it, i go some tires switch on my zr1's at big o's one day, and they said they had to charge me more because my rims, were VETTE wheels which pissed me off!!!

Nothing against the SBC, btw. That's my favorite engine... those engineers back in the 50's were geniuses. They designed an engine that 60 years later is still competive with just about anything out there.

I overstated the AFR price BUT it's still more expensive. Yes I know the 4.6 parts are super expensive but I was talking the 5.0 era.
Thanks for all the comments for my question and skipping the GM vs Ford idiotic debate.

If you're talking about the 5.0 era, you should compare the same era of GM parts. You can't compare a new generation to an old generation accurately in terms of price.

There is no way the OP is comparing the cost of ls1 parts compared to 4.6 parts. You give me 7k to mod my gt and I'd come away with a 350-360 rwhp N/A 2v. Not to mention I'd still probably need more to get an adequate fuel system for N2O. Now let me spend that 7k to spend on my Z28 I'm sure some of ya'll would know how that would work out lol.......
