Default Porting LS1 intake manifold

Can any power be had from porting/polishing the regular LS1 intake? I know I should get a LS6, but that costs money... Or are the runners setup differently?

Thanks!

Would you port the mani yourself? I honestly would just get the ls6...350 bucks. Professional porting of the ls1....350 bucks. Ls6 would probably make more power anyway.

I would do it myself... Why? I do have a spare one here and if I can pick something up... then why not?

No offense, but you would more than likely cause more problems than gain power. If the flow between each cylinder is not even, you could have some problems. Just pick up an ls6 intake and enjoy the extra power.

LS1 intakes are worthless, so why not give it a try? I can't see it flowing what an LS6 will, but maybe a few horses could be worth it.

People tried to do it for years before better intakes (and the LS6) came about. Never worked and more times than not, lost power..

I wouldn't call LS1 intakes worthless, come in handy for people swapping truck engines into other cars.

On ebay they go for $150 or more pretty often from what I've seen

It's not worth it. Talking to my tuner, due to the shape of the bottom of the intake and height of the intake...the actual volume of the LS1 intake has far less cubic inches than the LS6. So regardless of you grinding it and making it slightly larger on the ports, you still have the "V" in the bottom of the intake. You're not going to add any significant power, let's just say it like that. Before even tuning it, just bolting the LS6 felt much stronger after 3000rpms. It truly feels like a 15whp gain. I think $300 is worth it.

Don't waste your time man. Put that thing on ebay, save the money you get from it, and then buy an LS6.

OK -

I thought just since I had 2 laying around, i'd give it a shot. I know when I put the LS6 on my 98, I could feel it.

You could, but the gains probably wouldn't be worth your time. Each runner would have to be bored pretty damn hardcore to really make a difference IMO. The LS6 will still way outflow the LS1 mani no matter what you do to it. The only thing that would help would be portmatching if that is done. Give it a shot, i would like to here the results if how it atleast does. If so, good luck
