Default Cat. Converter? - Doesn't start smoothly

I know that my cat. converter is going bad, and I just bought my new car used. It's starting to choke up quite a bit before starting, doesn't start right away like it used to. I'm thinking that the bad converter could be causing a little back pressure or something that is causing this. I'm getting very worried as I spent all my money on this car, and do not know much. I'm 16 and do not have the experience really. In addition, I was wondering what some of your opinions are on what is giving me a hard time starting it...maybe there are some other hidden problems?

What year/model is your car? Is the SES on/checked for any codes? Just not turning over as quickly as it did before? Why do you think it's a cat? I'd post more info so people can help you better. Lots of great help here, give us some more info.

You have 2 cats. P0420 is drivers side, P0430 is passenger side for inefficiency codes. If you have less than 120K they're covered under warranty. Don't think it's related to your slower starting, you'd notice it while driving too or hear it rattle if it was blocked or coming apart inside.

120K they are covered under warranty? What? Hmm, my 98 V6 is about 3K shy of 120K miles. Is mine still covered then, even if I'm not the original owner? The thing rattles quite a lot inside but it hasn't thrown any codes.

The normal warranty is 8 years/80,000 miles, no matter if your the first owner or tenth.
GM did increase the emissions warranty to 120,000 miles on the 2002 F-body models, but I thought that was the only year for which the warranty was extended.
I don't believe your model year was covered in the extension, call a couple of dealers and ask about it.

The extended cat warranty is 10 years/120K on the 00-02 LS1 F cars only.

Yes it is on 2000- 2002 ls1 f-bodies.

I have been debating on getting my done, just not so sure I want the dealership touching my car.

Even if you are slightly over the requirements I would argue like hell with them. They will act like they know nothing about the extended warrenty.
I have the papers from gm if you need someone to email them to ya.

I would say something like when you inquired up there before when your car was within warrenty then they turned you away. Talk to the head guy, and now your new car which you are purchasing very soon will most definetly be a toyota, because they take care of their customers... lol
