Default A/C compressor?

my clutch? is going out i think. i dont know if its that or something internal but it also leaks. is it possible and worth the hassle to find one out of a wrecked ls1 and just replace my old one with it? mine has 120k on it so something around 50k?

Used ones can work ok. It's important to drain as much oil out of it as possible and flush the oil out of the rest of the system so you can get an accurate and clean oil charge back in it.

I know it's expensive, but do you really want to do it again? Think of how much money you have to spend if you do it twice. I had the same choice to make and honestly I would rather do it once and do it right, man the stock one lasted me 8yrs so i think that is worth it.

I know I'm keeping the car so it was a no brainer.

if your turn the car on and then turn the a/c on you can hear and see if the clutch on the compressor engages. you may just have a leak

Make SURE you replace the accumulator if the system is ever opened (just an FYI). The drying agent becomes ruined and can increase the chance of liquid slugging the compressor.

I got a used compressor and it worked but then the clutch started rattling. Honestly its best to shell out for a new one, but they're damn expensive!

thats mostly the reason is that they are expensive. i found one for 75 with 50k on it. the ac still works when i put the belt back on it just squeaks too damn loud and is annoying and embarassing. i know its not the belt though.

btw i was talking about replacing the whole compressor not just the clutch

How do you know it's the compressor clutch?
I had a bad AC squeak, it was the tensioner pulley worn crooked making the belt ride the side of the pullies.

If you hear a motor-like sound engage when you turn on the AC, does that positively mean the AC clutch is functional, or could it still be slipping? If it slips, is there a way to tell by looking down from the engine bay?

How does the AC fluid look like?

In order to find ac clutch slip you need a manifold guage set and a trained eye. (whatever that is)
That plus a slipping clutch looks, well, like it's been slipping. It'll be all ate up looking and there will be metallic dust everywhere.

How does AC fluid look? WTF are you talking about?
Visually or pressure wise?

Except the accumulator. When those are removed they are junk.
