Default Having trouble finding correct acdelco thermostat

So I ordered an acdelco thermostat w/ water inlet off rockauto. I got the part in and the thermostat is too wide for the water pump inlet. So I examined the part and the one I ordered is stamped 12571261 and my original is stamped 12567563. I googled my original and can't come up with much. Has anyone had this problem or know of the part number that I need? Any help would be appreciated and I want an acdelco part, not something from any parts store.

Had a similar issue last year. AC Delco changed the part. They all come attached to the filler neck and are no longer separate. Not sure of the p/n, though.

Did you read the fine print at RockAuto and check the casting number on your water pump? Any chance someone before you replaced the water pump at some point?

A few years ago GM changed the pumps to the newer style, that's why the old hypertech tstats won't fit anymore. People were buying the 160 from SLP and woundn't fit due to the pump being replaced somewhere along the line. Keep the stock thermostat, not worth changing to 160 anyway.

even checking the stock to replace, found to be designed the same way. the thermostat is built into a new housing. the posts that hold the thermostat wont allow it to be inserted into the block. im thinking maybe i have a different water pump.

The water pumps were changed during the production of the cars, so you have to check which type you have and match the thermostat housing to the specific pump you have.

For a while AC Delco stocked both types of pumps and recently phased out the older model. So, if you have an older car that came from the factory with the old model pump and someone replaced it - you may have the new pump on the car. The only way to know for sure is to check the number on the castings.

More info on the phase-out: http://www.acdelcotechconnect.com/pdf/10JTI-064.pdf

I should have added that the thermostat design also changed. So, if your old one was a two piece, the correct replacement may be a newer one piece.

If your car had a two piece thermostat on it originally, the pump is probably the older design.
