Default Bad motor mounts?

My car (in signature) is vibrating a lot recently usually after going over bumps. I can say that I'm almost 100% sure it is in relation to engine RPM, not driveline RPM. When the trans downshifts to 3rd it is a quick vibration, like driving over the warning bars on the shoulder of the road but shakes the whole car. When it's in 4th, the vibration slows down. Very little vibration in 1st and/or 2nd or in neutral though.

I do have a poly trans mount. Could that be it?

is there a how-to on how to change out motor mounts? How hard is it? Can I do it with just jackstands, a hydraulic floor jack, and basic hand tools?

I couldn't find them on rockauto. I do want rubber.

But I'd get these if they're a good mod.... The Spohn LSx solid mounts....

The rubber is flimsy, the solid you will feel everything. Go with the Poly and forget about it.

Cool. Thats what I'll do. Just spoke to my builder, he said we'll just put new ones in when my engine gets pulled out. I thought it was an easy job to replace them......guess not.

My DD is poly and I would never go back to rubber. I do however have a rubber trans mount. You really need to drive in a car with poly motor mounts and a rubber trans mount before you take ANY advise. I think you would be short changing yourself. Read more...do yourself a favor.

You put poly motor mounts in and felt a BIG difference?

What did it feel like?

Well for one my old mounts were shot and i could feel the engine moving around when I would punch it. I did a lot of reading on poly mounts here. When I removed my old mounts I saw that the actual rubber part of the mount was glued to the steel part at one time, not good in my mind. The Poly mount that you put inside the original clam shell was almost twice the size of the rubber and bolted in place not glued. When I got them in and took it for a ride when i revved the engine I could Feel the motor again like when it was New. If I was to put rubber back in they would eventually break away from the steel again, without doubt. You don't have to take my word for it but do yourself a favor and do some more reading here on the subject. Also check out the Corvette forum and also the LS2 forum.

I've heard thats a good combo having a rubber trans mount,I just installed polys all the way around and I am 120% satisfied as far as how it feels...Mine vibrates a little, but compared to what it was like before....feels like a whole new car.

Yes before I did mine I read a lot of things people were saying. Heard a lot of complaints of vibration when doing the tranny mount in Poly, that's why I did it in rubber. I have also put the Poly in all of my suspension bushings and it is Incredible, a little squeaky but better than New.
