Default Refurbishing control arms

My new shocks use weld-in upper mounts, so I picked up a pair of used OEM arms & mounts locally to dedicate to these shocks. They're a bit rusty so I also picked up a wire brush attachment for the drill.

Once I'm done with the wire brush, what should I apply on the arm to help protect it in the future? POR-15? Multiple products?

POR-15 as well. Just did this on my swap 2 weeks ago. Clean it up as best you can. Then clean it a little more. Good luck.

Since I need to weld on the mount, do I wire brush the rust off first, then weld on the mount, then apply the POR last?

Not sure I want to steer too far away from the known working solution.

It's supposed to replace the OEM upper mount for the exact reason you are refurbishing old mounts.

It has holes for control arm adjustment but you can still retain stock geometry if you want I believe.

Check out UMI's FB page.

Ahh, here it is. They already closed for the day, no idea on price/availability/weight.

Nice thing is they are releasing a coil over mount style before a OEM spring/shock style

I'm just getting antsy to finally get all the suspension parts installed and have grown weary of delays I caused wanting to try something new.

18" Forgestars ordered the day after Thanksgiving, now I'm told they are waiting for more material to arrive in early Feb, plus time to manufacture and ship. My 17" tires are now basically slicks, considering cancelling the Forgestars and going with Speedlines due to my nervousness with bald tires. No cords showing yet at least.

I got the mounts welded on today. The shop had an open can of POR-15 in their fridge they let me borrow which is now in my fridge, but I can't find the remainder of the 3-step system locally. Do I have to mail order it?

the POR15 3 step is
1-clean/degrease
2-metal prep
3-POR15 apply
I've never bought their stuff for 1 & 2. For #2,after the original rust is removed and down to bare metal,I water wet all the bare metal to cause a orange rusty appearing molecular surface. when that's dry,I apply the POR15. That 'rust' is part of the POR15 curing/bonding process.
