Default A/C is now out, what else can I check??

Seems like a neverending cycle with the car now. Just had the brakes done and axles replaced after breaking them, now A/C doesnt work. Compressor will not even turn on. I checked the relays and they are fine, what else can I do.

If the freon is low, the compressor won't kick on. That's about all I can tell ya.

Do you have an SES light on? P0530 sets when the pressure is too low, or too high - then disables the compressor clutch. There's also a couple fuses to check in addition to the relay - HVAC and A/C CRUISE if you haven't already checked them. Only way to check for the correct charge is with a set of guages. Hope this helps...

Hope I'm not interrupting...

My A/C is blowing hot. The compressor cycles, but it never gets cold.

The only repair book I can find is a Haynes and the only pictures it shows of the A/C system is from another car. It does not reflect my 98 Z28. The photo shows the low-pressure fitting between the accumulator and the firewall. Mine isn't like that.

Where is MY low pressure fitting? The only fitting I saw that fit my recharge kit was on the accumulator, but it showed 150psi !!! I know the high-pressure side fitting is a different size than the low-pressure side, but I don't want to go screwing around and blow something expensive up.

Any pictures or descriptions would be appreciated...

The low pressure fitting is on the little silver cannister on the passanger side of the engine bay.. See attached pic.. My presuure from this fitting read about 40 PSI, it was under twenty before I added freon.

OMG! I'm showing 125psi at that port with the engine idling and the A/C on max.

I'm thinkin' I'm gonna have to actually spend some money on this issue. Dang!

Thanks, Joel, for your assistance. I appreciate it.

Happy Monday.

I wonder if its just overcharged for some stupid reason. Just a thing to try I guess before you spend money is hooking up the line and seeing if you can bleed some off down to around 45 or so??

yup that definatly sounds high...

try this...
drain off ALL your freon and replace it... it might have too much pressure, you might have messed up the gauge when you plugged it into the high pressure side..(i think i read something like that on the directions last time i did it)
either way it might fix your problem, and it dont cost alot for the refills... just make sure if you are emptying it all the way, that you buy the freon with oil in it ...(they sell both with and without... you need enough to keep things running smoothly)

Take a pressure reading withou the can.. mine read that high when the freon was flowing.. once the can was empty my pressure went back down to the 40s

NecroCannibal, I feel your pain... I had an 88 Chevy truck that was in the shop 14 times over three years. Every other week it was something new, and many things several times.

Is there a way Necro can dye his system as he adds new gas? Is there DIY gas that contains dye? Is it visible w/out special lights? One would think it would be available.

Can anyone explain Joel's experience that his port read 150-ish psi while filling but pressure went down when full?

I made a cursory, and ineffective, attempt to bleed off pressure. Is doing this indicated in light of the above sentence, and if it is what would be a good way to do that without spewing oil everywhere or freezing some fingers off? I kind of like my fingers where they are...
