Default AC compressor surging

So I Finally got my AC compressor and parts put in, the gas is in it, and finally the air is blowing cold. But why in Gods name is the compressor clicking on, then off, then back on then back off? Is it an electrical problem or something wrong with the compressor? Anyone ever have this happen to them before.

freon is r134a. there are at least 7 different types of freon that i know of off the top of my head. add more. did you acutally use a gauge setup to look at pressures? and how do you know you put in what's needed? did you vacuum the system down before adding freon? oops i mean r134a.

Off the top of my head total charge is around 1lb 9oz's,as mentioned above I hope you vacuumed it down before you charged it...if not you will never get a full charge of REFRIDGERENT in it...30-45 mins is a good rule of thumb to pull it down....

Hey sorry, wasnt trying to sound like a dick, dont know why you had to be like that?

I did NOT vaccuum it down before i put the freon in, so i guess ill take it to a shop and have them pull a vaccum and refill it.

Yes I used a gauge to tell me when the pressure was correct, and I talked to a few guys I know at a Pontiac dealership, they told me around 1pound 10 ounces was what they would use. I guess thats a moot point since I didnt pull a vac.

Hopefully this will take care of the AC problems.

Just had the system purged, vacuum pulled, and recharged. The compressor is still clicking on and off on and off. What the hell else could be wrong with the system? They tell me its the compressor, but I just replaced it with a compressor I bought from a board member, and it was in "working" condition.

This is starting to **** me off

It shouldn't turn on and off, being as these are the variable compressors.
If you have scanning software you might look at the output from the pressure sensor to see if it's working right. If I remember right it reads out a voltage. Don't have my Helms handy right now to check what is "normal". If that sensor is going bad maybe it's causing the problem. It's located on the small AC line about around cylinder 4 or 6.
