Default Couldn't beleive this... ATF in manual transmission!

My roomate's ranger 5spd calls for ATF in his manual transmission. Most manuals I've seen call for some REALLY thick fluid, most do with a rear-diff type fluid (GEAR OIL)

:wtf:

ATF does NOT deal well with heat (why do most AT's fail? over heating! Double the life by cooling it just a few degrees).
Manuals dont have coolers...
that crap is thinner than 5-30W we use... anyone heard of this before?

all modern manual transmissions use ATF..

the thinner fluid lubricates better... modern transmissions have much tighter tolarances... for example the T56 in the fbodies and GTOs here all take dextron II/III

Crazy man, learn something new every day.

How often do you change that?

most people? never.

but most people also dont change their ATF in their automatics either..

if i were to make a schedule on it, id probly change mine every 4 oil changes or so.... aka around 20k... but i rarely keep a single drivetrain together that long, im allways messing with stuff... ive changed mine twice already, but thats from messing with it.

for oil, i run Mobil1 synthetic ATF in mine.. that and the honda stuff (also synthetic ATF) works the best for me... when i put regular ATF in, i can feel the diff in the shifting.. and im pretty sure the diff isnt just in my head...

Every birthday for me (along with radiator, rear end, power steering...). Just for check, plus there is absolutely a more positive shift feel after the fact.

Not really new ... the Mopar A-833 4-spd was using it decades ago.
