it's totally normal. a lot of people have posted the same question before you. for some reason, LS1's like to make a "camming" sound with the brake booster off and idle very low. sometimes, the engine dies with the brake booster attached because the idle drops so low.

thank you to all that have thanked me for the writeup thus far. always a pleasure to help.

I seafoamed my top end. Used about 1/2 a can. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Turned it on didnt really smoke that much at all kind of disappointing but good to see my engine was clean. I let it sit for a few min then took it for a quick romp up and down the road, then let it idle for about 10 minutes. Took it out for a hard ride after that still not that much smoke...a little hesitation was cured unless its just my imagination .

One quick thing I didnt even see the part about letting it sit for about 10 minutes before you go for a "spirited drive" It was sitting idling for about 1-2 then I took it for a quick quick ride (not that spirited) maybe hit 60-70 tops up and down my street...my question is would this hurt anything?

I would add that getting the MAF cleaner from Vatozone or Advanced and doing this while the car is sitting is a good idea also. I was having major lagging issues which are almost completely gone now with the seafoam and the MAF cleaning. Very very responsive now.

I didn't have time to read through this whole thing, but with a carburator is there any use for it for cleaning that or should I just use it in the gas/oil/brake booster hose?

ok guys i just seafoamed my 04 5.3 sierra with about 36k miles. Everything feels great and seems to pull better at WOT but one thing that concerns me is that at the very low rpms it sounds like it is sputtering and trying to die out. I also hear a misfire but that should be taken care of when i change the spark plugs. I seafoamed in on Thursday and i will change the oil today. What could be causing the sputtering nice and the shaking???

do you have an SES light? if you do, you may have fouled a plug.

if you're throwing a code, what i recommend you do is pull the negative cable off your battery for 10 minutes to clear the codes. see if the code comes back and if the car still sputters.

if you're not throwing any codes at all:

- you may just need to drive it a little more. seafoam sometimes takes a while to clean out of the engine. it may take a few miles.

- if you have been driving it for a while and you're still feeling sputtering, try seafoaming it again. you may have dislodged some crap. a second seafoam treatment sometimes smokes even more than the first as the first only began to tap the surface of the crap inside the engine.

My car just turned 40K, and I saw this thread so I gave it a shot. Write up was very easy to follow, and everything happened just like you said. Car didnt smoke that much, I mean there was smoke but not a crazy amount. It feels healthier, exhaust smells better (have an ORY), and it feels a bit more responsive. I say it was a good thing to do. No down sides at all. Thanks for the time to write this.

Hi all, like a previous poster, I too have a late-model 3800 V6 series II with an electric TB that won't open with the engine off.. Is there an easier method of using Deep Creep on the TB and intake that doesn't involve physically removing the TB?
Thanks

Edit: I found that by turning the key to the ON position with the engine off, the throttle body opens and closes when you push on the gas. I will try this method. (If I don't make another post, it's probably because I have died in some horrible manner.)

once again, thanks to all for the compliments

i'm starting to realize that i'm getting ripped off here. i generated a lot of sales for seafoam, and i got nothing in return maybe i should forward this URL to seafoam's sales department and demand a stipend. or at least ask the mods for a creative user title involving seafoam...

so I just seafoamed my car, didnt smoke much until I went to drive it off. The smoke trail was amazing. haha. It actually threw a misfire on cylinder seven when I went to autozone to get the ses light check, but it has since went away. some racing ensued.

i seafoamed mine yesterday, pretty much no smoke at all until after the 20 minute idle and i went driving. it was funny as hell smoking through the neighborhood. i drove for a mine while getting on it ever so often. i did throw a code but when i got home, i just reset the pcm and all is good now. i am just hoping i see a diff in my gas mileage. gonna do my expedition this week.

Wow is all I can say. My first time doing this on my 02 Z28 with 54000 miles and an INSANE amount of smoke came out right after starting it up. I wasn't expecting that at all.

Think I nearly killed two kids that were skateboarding outside my gate with the mushroom cloud too. They said they thought my car was broken as they ran from the giant plume. Guess I should've stopped and warned them before I started it up but I really didn't think it would smoke much if at all.

Thanks for the guide Choco, my car actually feels a lot smoother after doing this.

Oh boy!

I can't wait to try this Sea Foam stuff on my 91 RS Camaro that has 285,000 miles on it. It's never had this sort of top end cleaning.

I'll probably get a mushroom cloud out of it...

The write up is excellent. A+
