my ls1 overheats with ac on ?
My car overheats with the ac on and runs a little pass the 210 mark with out it on.I changed the water pump but it was used but there is circulation with the top off so i assume its working fine.I also changed the thermostat to a 160 and a new radiator no signs of a blown head gasket.I do have the fast toys air induction kit running underneath the airbox and the xenon air dam bodykit in the front if those two things matter.what else could it be maybe the waterpump works but not to full potential?

its just a tad over the 210 mark i here alot of people saying the same thing but my brothers 98 formula ram air stays around 180 all day long with his fan switch on, and mine stays pass the 210 mark with fan switch on.so my water pump is leaking ill replace it hopefully thats whats wrong.

If you want to know what the coolant temp actually is in 99 and up cars you need an aftermarket temp guage or an electronic guage pod like a Scanguage. Two other possibilities regarding your overheating:
1. Could your body kit be blocking off airflow across the factory air damn? That is crucial for getting air across the radiator.
2. If this only happens when the AC is on, you might want to check your evaporator, the smaller radiator like unit in front of the main radiator. One person posted that theirs was clogged up with various junk and cleaning it out solved their overheating problem.

Ill be replacing the waterpump tomorrow and ill let you guys know what happens and the ac condensor was a little dirty. My camaro is a 2000 versus my brothers 98 so i guess that temp gage answer could be right.hopefully tomorrow will answer all these questions and my running hot issues, thanks guys for all your input.

Check the secondary radiator fan, it is supposed to turn on when the AC is turned on, if its not turning on, check relays, if those are ok, you might have a bad condenser fan.

By the way, does it overheat on the highway also? Becasue fans are turned off depending on speed by the PCM, so in the highway, the car relies on the fresh air it gets while its runing.

Im a newb at this but i think im having the same simular situation but the only difference is i own a 94 lt1. I also changed my water pump and now my temp is going up and down. Up when im at a stop and down when im driving sometimes it may go up when driving. But anyways my question is what the proper procedure to bleeding out the cooling system o and my themo stat is a 190 deg if that would help

My dads 98 SS did the same thing at the starting of the summer when we first turned the AC on. About a week after that it stopped overheating. Idk what it was but whatever it was, was temporary.

well i changed the waterpump and the engine coolant temperature sensor and still the same thing but i noticed that the temperature gauge does not fully go all the way down when the car is off 155 or so even when its cold so i think my gauge isnt giving an accurate reading ill have to get a mechanical one.but does anybody know how i could still have both gauges working once i get this other water temp one so the ecm is still getting its own reading.

Fans are turned on/off depending on the coolant temperature.
Once again, a/c makes the car run hotter. More drag on the motor, it has to work harder... anyone following? The condenser could have a squirrel caught in it, and will have nothing to do with the heat of the coolant.

Thats why you don't just go replacing parts, find out whats wrong with the car first. Which, to me, sounds like nothing.
