As I understand it, the coils get power from the fuse box. The PCM only sends it a trigger signal.

I assume this is in response to this:
Did you try the Accel coils 140040 ?
I just fitted a set to my LS1 and I now get an ignition fault in all 8 .
The LS1 computer couldn't control them at all.
No matter what I did I couldn't get them to work .
Took them off and fitted the black ACDelco D585 and they work perfectly .
When I get time I have a set of accel's too he sent me, I will try mine, cross your fingers.

Well I put mine on today, took about 1.5 hours, but I didnt relocate any of the fuel lines.
I def. noticed a difference after the install. The engine felt like it was runing "crisper" and when i road tested it, it left quite a bit more rubber on the road in third gear than it normally does! My wife was in the car and even ask what I did to it. I had a hard time getting the packs to bolt up on both sides, is there a trick to the passenger side? I couldnt get all the wire looms out of the way, and none of the holes matched up...are the left and right coil pack brackets the same or are they different? The ones I got are the exact same. Also could some do a write up on how to relocate the fuel line parts from the drivers side? I was affraid Id break something. And yes my engine bay is dirty, i cleaned it afterwards. Here are some install pics:

Make sure you remove the connector by pushing up on the metal clip on the back.
This stuff comes in handy!

Hey, foreverzero yes both brackets are the same but the reason they won't line up is because there is a earlier style center bolt valve cover with a different bolt pattern. Glad to hear they work well and make a difference. Also with your wife noticing a difference almost throws out the placebo effect.

I have an 02, so I dont think its the valve covers, i think i need to do the wire mode to free up some room. I only have one bolt on the passenger side on, but it holds good. Im going to work on it some more, but I just wanted to see if the hype was real, and they really do feel different

I have tried using the Genuine D585 coils and they work good , No codes at all .

Fitted the yellow Accel ones and thats when all the problems start , With the codes etc.

The Accels I have come from Ebay ( Rebel Motorsport )
So they might be faulty , Thats Why I asked if anyone has used them in an LS1 car without problems .

Talking Accels coils work!

Gentleman,
First off, HAPPY LABOR day, the only work to be done is on ones own LS1!

I finished the temp install of the accel coils on my car and the car started up no problem, uploading youtube video now, its 100mb so it will be a few mins. I did not drive the car but throttle response seems to be a lil better but of course no way to tell with out real world testing, sorry I could not get my car to a dyno proir to this install, I live out in the boonies. Best I can tell plug wires will need to be 1"-2" longer than stock, not that much. Sorry for the dirty engine bay , neither me nor the last owner cleaned the engine bay but it will be cleaned and detailed shortly after these and other mods are done shortly.
  • This is the worst part of this job, period! 10mm x 1/4 drive needed and tons of patience to get the last stud out on the passengers side.

  • Once you get that last stud out, the install is a breeze on this side, ditch that last stud too!

  • Major clearance issues here, line will need to be moved some how?

  • Close up of the clearance issue:

Petraszewsky Thanks for the help, Paul Belle too!

I pretty well documented the install and the mods needed for clearance issues in posts 48 and 72.

"i think the accels are just rebadged gm heat sink truck coils"

Did you guys notice posts 206, 207 & 208?

AND, a few guys said that the Accel coils have operating issues that go away when going back to the GM truck coils.

On my LT1 car, I have had 2 Accel coils go bad. Both in a short time span/low mileage. I'm glad I kept my original Delco coil in a box on the shelf all these years. I have had to temporarily reinstall it both times the Accel failed. Have been running an MSD for a while and no problems thus far.

Based on their track record with me, I would install the D585 coils way before even thinking about Accel.

TWS, on your LT1 car, how are you running the D585 coils? LTCC or LS1 EFI system?
