Well unless you have the proper equipment I'd just suggest dropping the $75-100 to have a shop hook it up & do it professionally. Then they can check every part of the A/C system as they go thru it all & check for leaks.

Mine just stopped working since last summer & I really dont want to go pay someone but it really is the better option unless you just dont mind messing with all the proper testing & filling.

its really not that hard but you need to do some reading to make sure you are familiar with the freons and oils.

Keep in mind that there is going to be moisture in all those componenets that needs to be removed before you fill it up with R134. This is not a must per se, but the moisture will decrease the "efficiency" of the entire system.

I have flushed the AC lines before with an aresol AC line flush available at auto parts stores. Its expensive at $20 a can (ask for it from behind the counter if you dont see it). I would also replace the orifice tube which is a screen for debris. Then seal the system up and vaccuum it down. Then i think there is an initial charge of oil for the compresser then fill with freon. You prolly need to read up on the oil part bc Im not 100% sure on that.

cant tell you exactly, i would estimate at least three. I bought a complete 134 changover kit and i think it had 3 bottles or so on it (for a previous car) and 1 bottle of oil.

never use a flush agent, the only way to flush a a/c system is with r134. A machine made for flushing. You will never get all the flush agent out of the evap core. Just take it to a shop and have them pull a vac on the system, if it holds good odds are you are good to go as long as the compressor, elec part of the system is in good working order. My compressor leaks around the housing seals, but it takes about 2 years for it to all leak out. Time to replace it this year. Be aware alot of the cans you buy have propane in them, and never ever ever use anything that contains a sealer. It will plug up your system, and if any shop hooks up a machine without a dye/sealer filter it will fuc** up their expensive machine. Ask me how I know.
