my shopping list, does it require dyno tune?
for my 02 ws6 i will have a ported throttle body, ported intake manifold, slp intake, and then slp power flow exhaust. im debating shorty headers (dont want long tube) and an electric cut out.
does this need a dyno tune or will a handheld programmer be acceptable?
thanks

True...and GO BLUE!
inssanity21 - By all means a tune will optimize what you have done, and be able to unlock the full potential of the mods you are doing.

Although I agree that shorties are not as good as LT's there is a difference to be had. I think it was GM high tech mag. that showed a comparison between F-body exhaust manifolds, c-5 Corvette exhaust manifolds and Long Tubes, surprisingly the C-5 exhaust did very well. If just changing out the f body manifolds for C-5 corvette manifolds will get horsepower gains, you could expect shorties to do just as well if not better. IMO

I dont think you can use c5 manifolds on a fbody, but I could be wrong there. You will absolutely gain power from long tubes over shorties, in fact the gains to be had with shorties over stock manifolds are so minimal that to me it isnt even worth the money. Longtubes will gain power, especially on the top end. As far as a tune goes, it wont be necessary but as everyone else has said it would be beneficial.

You are absolutly correct you cannot use C-5 manifolds, but if they flow more effeciently than the F bodies isn't it reasonable to believe that shorties would do the same thing or better? I am not contesting that long tubes are superior, I just know not everybody wants to deal with the scraping of headers on curbs or having to deal with emissions. And as much as people argue, there are horsepower and torque gains. I am not going to spend the time digging up magazine articles that will be disputed by everybody under the sun. and it is only 10-12 horsepower and about 10 pounds of torque but hey every bit counts. If you can pick them up for cheap why not take advantage of it. I say go for it.
