Default Updated!! FAST intake fits like ****...whats everyone do to fix this???

I am about ready to throw this piece in the trash...ha...The intake fits the 215TFS heads pretty bad...it was slightly like this on the stock 241s but not this extreme...

Has anyone had any luck shimming the intake up...I am thinking of making 8 intake port shims about 0.25" to get the intake geometry back in alignment, not sure on what material i want to use yet...might get some viton gaskets watercut from work...

and these are 60cc milled heads if they were stock the ports would be even more off line...i cant let it slide these little things bother me...

Chris

use some epoxy on the floor of the intake to match with the floor of the head port.

that will smooth the transition but make the port smaller... I think my best option is to run a spacer it will align the port so it has a more straight shot and smooth out the transition...

not sure what material I want to use yet...

maybe just a thick viton gasket with the ports cut out rtv to the head...or I could go with an aluminum spacer with thin gaskets on each side...

Why not mark the heads with a sharpie and dremmel the port to match the intake? How does it fit at the top?

do you have a picture or think of these gaskets...sounds promising...what ever it is, it will need to be around .25-.375 compressed...I am going to figure this out more tomorrow...

Chris,

This happens to nearly everyone that buys Fast intakes. Doesn't seem to affect performance. I've seen big name companies "chase" this by lowering the floor on the heads (hogging them out) and blending the heads to the intake and nothing was gained.

I suggest you very lightly, chamfer the intake ports on your TF215's and go on... as much as it kills you to leave it like it is, it will be ok

Be glad that the lip isn't reversed! With the lip being in front of the airflow it will create an air pocket there and flow right over that edge on the head, but if the intake flange was overhanging the head flange then it would create turbulance in the intake port cause the air would then tumble. That does suck though. Looks like that intake is ported already, would an unported intake be this bad?

Can you take a pic of the manifold to cylinder head from the front of the engine looking back to the back of the head.

Looking to see if their is a problem that an angle milling will correct in the intake side of the cylinder heads.

What has been done to the engine any machine work to the block.

Something looks way out of wack I dont think modifying the intake ports is the answer.

this was brought up when the FAST first came out. same exact "step", they even showed a picture of it.

DON'T touch the heads.

as stated they seem to be like this...but still make sick power.

it will be ok

so... when i here people talking about port matching the intake to the heads, all they are doing in hogging out the head? looking at the picture, that would be a god awful amount to remove from the head. and if it doesnt net super gains then its a wonder that so many big name engine builders advertise this service.

yeah I hear you on the tumbling...I work with airflow everyday, working for a airfilter company...the main thing that I don't like is that the fast has a steeper entry angle than the heads...and the pinch point is the joint where they meet obviously...so in a way it is acting like a 20* or so elbow...if I can raise the fast up it will lesson this angle change and also smooth the transition...kind of kill two birds with one stone...

yes the intake is potted but it is 90% on the sides...the bottom really doesn't have that much taken off...but to answer your question yes it would help the transition some being imported...
