Default 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 primaries..

im getting headers made for my luv truck.. right now i have a 5.3 in it and it has a ls6 intake and cam.. im gonna keep that motor for now since i have it, but will be building a 6.0 for it in the future. diff. heads, cam, maybe fast intake etc.. what size primaries should i go with? it will have 3" collectors and 3" oval y pipe to 4" pipe probably.. just to be different. i hear that will handle up to 600hp, so thats more than itll have.

I think the 1 7/8" headers are best for applications over 500hp.

1 7/8 have shown not to hurt on mild to wild stock displacment motors, but help when going with larger cubes. So get them in 1 7/8 now to have room to grow later.

I would go with a 1 7/8" if you plan on building it up.

1 7/8 headres have been proven to make more power than 1 3/4 headers in all applications.. From stick cubes and no mods all the way up to big cubes and massive mods
the have also shown no loss of torque down low

in many tests the 1-7/8 headers followed the 1-3/4 headers exactly up to about 4000 rpm where the 1-7/8 headers started to pull away and make more power

if you can afford the cost difference... Buy the 1-7/8 headers
if you can't afford it... Save your money for a few more paychecks until you can

there is really only a small difference in X and Y pipes...

My x pipes always made a little bit more power up top(like 5hp)
and my Y-Pipes always made more torque down low(similar 5-8tq)

I've never done the 3"->4"
for me its always ben 3" the whole way out.

id rather have some more torque.. so are you saying 3" y and 3" pipe is fine for say.. 500hp? i doubt the truck will have that much. wanting low 400, but i want room to grow incase without redoing ****.

3" Y and #" all the way out is fine.

My setup that I'm currently building I'm expecting 480hp and 440ish torque when I'm all said and done....and then a little less once I throw on a 12 bolt or a ford 9"

sweet. 3" oval pipe is cheaper too. woot.

that hp/torque range will be fun in a 2500ish pound truck

Here's mine. I just swapped from true duals to a 4 inch single.
