Default Best FAST 92 port job??

I've seen shops charge from $200-$600 for porting FAST intakes. Anybody have gain #'s by shop so we can do a comparison? Who has the best gain for the dollar? I'm wanting to get mine ported but I want the best bang for my buck....

Tony Mamo is the only porter i'll ever use. it's difficult to explain until you see his work yourself. i've had two of his ported FAST's and the quality of his work is almost indescribable. FWIW, just because something is more expensive than something else, doesn't mean it isn't still the best value

When it comes to port work, dont go cheap. Anyone can pickup a dremmel and port your intake. Just because they take some stuff out doesnt mean they made more power. Go with someone who has shown results and not just some guy who says he can do it. Vengence and Tony have proven to be worth the money.

I've used the search function and i'm not finding these "proven results" everyone seems to talk about. Doesn't anyone have a hard graph of a before and after comparison of what gains they received? I mean, i'm sorry but before I lay down $600 for someone to port my intake, i'd like to know what kind of gains I should expect to get....

You will not find any results from unported 90/92 to ported 90/92. My guess is you will never see it for the 102 either. Why would a shop spend time to test a mod when everyone is convinced it is worth the investment without testing? Most shops blame it on time. IMO that's BS, it takes 10 minutes to switch an intake manifold. You can either drink the Kool-Aid or do the testing yourself. If you do buy I would suggest Tony Mamo only because he has always been a "stand up" guy on here. Tony is the only person I know that will still port your current intake, most shops will only sell ported FAST intakes outright now. I would love to get my hands on an unported 90 just to see how my home porting helped (or hurt lol). Good luck,

Larry

OP,

Gains from properly porting these FAST intakes have been documented dating back to 2005 if you care to spend the time to dig and search for the results.

But allow me to quickly summarize it for you....

With GOOD heads (AFR, TFS, etc.) an unported FAST is usually worth around 10-15 RWHP......port the same intake and your usually looking at 20-25 RWHP (almost doubling the power output from the swap....good value when you consider the cost of the entire install....TB, R&R time and labor, tune, etc).

This however reflects the gains most commonly associated with the older gen 90 and 92mm units.....my gut based on some of the newer info on the 102 piece is the ratio (ported to unported) will remain similar but the total gains themselves may be a little higher. Some have said the new 102 is better out of the box and doesn't need any porting.....thats about 50% accurate. It is better out of the box but much like the original needs some extra work to get the most from it.

I suggest you breeze thru this thread as part of your "homework" and it may help you get a better understanding of why I charge what I do (of course you always have other less expensive alternatives). Wanna try it at home....have at it and you will get a better appreciation of whats involved in a very short period of time....and most home ported intakes are only scratching at the surface of whats possible.

I'm not sure but it seems you have a chip on your shoulder about the entire situation for some reason or maybe I'm reading too much into what your typing. I don't know, but I do know I can comfortably say the couple of hundred customers I have helped since pioneering this process in 2004 have all been extremely satisfied with the work performed and the results.

Should you have any direct questions about your particular situation feel free to PM or call

Thanks,
Tony

I apologize if it seemed I have a chip on my shoulder, and I guess maybe I did, that is until I read through the supplied thread. Thanks for the thread Tony, very informative. When I did my searching, I was looking for "FAST porting" and "intake porting"...

go with Mano...I was not happy with my vengence ported intake(was a special 900 for a ported 92)...it looked like they spent 1 hr at most on it, more like roughing it up with a sand roll to mimic porting than actual material removal...

I have since spend 8 or so hrs on it myself and fully port matched it...it takes alot of time and patience...I think what Tony charges is right around what it should be for the time and quality of work...

I can say that I'm unhappy with the negligible tuned gains achieved from the ported Fast 92 that Vengeance installed for me. Biggest waste of money I've spent on the car since I bought it new.
