ASP pulley worth it?
Are the ASP underdrive pulleys really worth the money? I'm saving for a cam package and ls6 intake now but I'd also like to get all the bolt on's.
I'm also trying to decide on which TB to get. Thanks.

I just pulled an aftermarket pulley off the '01 LS1 I'm swapping into my project car. Not sure what brand, but it's aluminum and has a tiny accessory pulley diameter compared to the ATI 10% underdrive balancer I installed.
I'll post it in the For Sale section...no dings or dents I see, removed with a professional 3-bolt puller, I do road-course racing and really like ATI balancers.

I would take a look at FluidDamper and March has a viscous fluid damper also. SLP has a new one coming out too that has raised sides to help eliminate belt throwing probs. Good luck - Im having a hard time deciding!
I like the fluid type though - some people have had probs with some of the pulleys setting off the knock sensors.

I have never heard of this. The only way I could see that possible is if the pulley was installed incorrectly causing it to wobble badly enough to set something off. I've installed about 25 ASP pulley's over the years and never experienced this..

I got my ATI balancer from Thunder Racing. ATI pieces have a great reputation in racing, and the gen-3 engine specifically in the ASA series where they use LS1 crate engines. Katech uses them on their 7.0L engines for the C5R also.
The harmonic data I saw didn't really make a solid case by itself, the ATI doesn't really shine over the fluid type dampers until well over 6K rpm and I don't spend much time there when I'm on a road course. What did make the case was the ASA/Katech useage above, and the 2-piece design...you can heat up the hub and slide it right on, then bolt the damper to it. 16mm balancer installers aren't very available (yet).
