I use German Castrol as well but may switch to Penzoil Platinum since I've been hearing the good reviews and it cost about half as much. How ofter do y'all change your oil time wise? I don't many miles on my car at all and don't believe I put 3k on it this last year. How long is it safe to run oil time wise?

Most of the oil analysis I've seen for lsx engines shows German Castrol (Castrol Syntec European formula is what it says on the bottle) and Pennzoil Platinum to be among the best choices.
Pennzoil Platinum is cheap and available at any walmart
I use a full 6 qts in mine

Last change a few days ago was Mobile 1 high mileage 5w30 & Mobile 1 Extended performance filter. I change it every couple of mths because if I waited til I put 3-5k miles on it it would never get changed. It takes the occasional trip down the highway and the 5 miles mile commute to work on nice days..Its a parking space queen .

Wow! And here I thought 10W30 was the most common! Since Day 1, I've been using Mobile1 10W30 Synth and an M1-206 Mobile1 Filter.
So...what's the difference or the reasons to go 0W or 5W?

50 WEIGHT is to heavy, It does great for driveing oil temps up and not get to critcal parts on time due to crappy pumpabilty. LS motors where built and designed for and recommended a 30 weight oil. If a engine builder builds it loose and recommends a 50 weight that is fine but not a stock bottom end ls motor.
Personally I have been using GC 5w-30 for a while now and it seems fine, with a wix filter. My valvetrain is very noise though so I might try a different brand next time.

I've always heard to stay away from Penzoil products, but is the Ultra their newest line, and good to use? I've always used Mobil 1 in previous cars. Looking to do my first oil change on my '02 Z28

I use 5w30 or 10w30 depending on what season it is
I some times have to mix high mileage and regular mobil 1 and I use mobil 1 filters
There is a difference in synthetic and conventional, if you tear apart an engine that ran synthetic its going to be a lot cleaner.
