You are replacing it due to the fact it is a common failure. So yes to ensure a good connection. Yes cut wire and solder on new.

You have it all right.
Cool just wanted to make sure thanks man

Are those all I need ? And will those both work??

No that isn't the right pigtail

This is the AC Delco pt1136
http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-PT1136.../dp/B000C9QDR8

Ebay has one with just one wire instead of 4. They are the same, except one comes with all 4 ports pinned and wired, the other comes with just the 1. Either one is fine.

It's a cheap rebuild. So who knows, you could have excellent luck or the horrible luck I did. I went through I believe it was 9 rebuilds in 1 year.

After over a year and a half still have the one on the car that came from the junkyard. So up to you what you want to go with. I think it's way over complicating things to go buy a new shitty rebuild for 5 times the price of a junkyard alternator that will hold up better.

If I were in the position that I had time to let the car sit for a few days and was worried about the junkyard alt, I would buy a junkyard alt, take it to an alt rebuilder and tell them to test the electronics, if they are good then leave them alone and change the bearings and go on down the road...

Default installing alt.?

1.doe's the front sway bar have to be removed or lowered to install the alt.?

2.how much slack is there in the 4pin wireing? I understand the alt. must be unbolted to dissconnect the 4pin connector so do you Guy's just surport it w/ 1 hand while dissconnecting w/ other hand? or have a jack stand surporting the unbolted alt.?

edit: can't remember but did I read here the 4pin connecter is unpluged from the top before unbolting the alt.?

Thanks

unplugging the connector is a no brainer......reach from the top or bottom.....a small screwdriver may help

Great write up! This was exactly the thread I was looking for to save some cash when my stock 105 amp alt died. (power steering leak)

Did this swap myself a few weeks ago after replacing the pump and lines, haven't had any issues since! Plus my lights don't flicker anymore. Well worth the $60 for the salvaged alternator.

Looks like you are now possibly the first person in Germany to have an F body with a truck alternator! Hope it works out for you as well as mine has.

Awesome to hear, I drove mine to work today and still, not a single issue since the truck alternator.

I just finished a BIG 3 + truck alt. prior to the install my lights were always flickering and voltage would drop below 12. Just fired her up today with the new alt and it hasnt dropped below 14 along with no flickering. install was easy used the 4 pin AC delco pn mentioned in the early posts by 00pooterSS. fit right in for me didn't have to remove sway bar. Definitely recommend this mod to anyone as either preventative or a fix for similar issues.
