You will not be disappointed. Very simple swap and makes a hell of a difference. You'll love it!

And I am planning on swapping the wire out , if both those show/do nothing I will be looking for another truck alt .. Prolly a new one, so my question is can I buy this truck alt at autozone? If so what can I type in to look it up? Thanks for the advice
Figures, an alternator I ship to damned Germany would be the one that acts up....

Install the new wire otherwise we are all just guessing. If that doesn't fix it send me back that alternator and I will have it warrantied for you.

If you go to an auto parts store get an alternator for a 2003 chevy truck 5.3 engine 145 amp alternator.

If so how much wire do I need and do I run them inline with the existing wires or just in place of? Thanks guys I know these question have been asked a million times, just love my car and want to get it done right the first time.
P.S. Thanks again.
It's not absolutely necessary to replace the exciter wire it's just incredibly dumb not too. They fail and cause problems, it's right there in the area so just do it at the same time. Plus it's a bit of a stretch for the stocker. As far as the big 3, I still haven't upgraded any of that wiring on mine. You can if you want. Sorry, I can't answer where to get the wiring or how much. Get a ruler and measure the existing wire and then measure where you would run the others then buy and extra couple feet.

Like SJ said, newer ones have 2 pin connectors and will NOT work. If you can find a 4 pin it will.

I've read 90% of this thread and it seems most of you have the LS1 engine. I have a '96 TA and wondering if the KG3 will fit?

ok, I just installed my 03 Truck alternator and the dash indicator is reading below 13. i took it to Autzone to test; shows my Alt. failed!... ARG!!! ok so now what? and a quick question... I want to make sure I didn't mess up the excitor wire (would that cause a fail?). How many wires are connected to the excitor wire plug???

If you didn't put a new exciter wire on it you're pissing in the wind, they aren't long enough and they do go bad.

Sounds like you had a bad one though if they tested it for you and they said it wasn't working.

On a side note, I sold my Camaro and bought a GMC truck and I am going to do this alt mod to it too since it only came with a 105 amp.

This mod was the best ever!! Made driving my car so much better. Fixed everything that was wrong with my car electrically(flickering lights, blowing fuses, idle,no dimming from the subwoofer, and just feels smoother all around). I couldn't be happier. If you are debating on doing this and have flickering lights etc. don't waste your time. Just do it
