Default me toooo!

Thought I would also chime in here that I replaced my factory with a dr44 from ebay that was brand new for 80 bucks and works perfectly. Really is the way to go if your having the issues that are outlined in this thread.

Is the two wire vs four wire pigtail the only difference in the alternator? Does it mount the same and take the same belt as the stock and pre-05 kg3 alternators?

What exactly is the problem with the stock 105A alternator?

Is it not powerful enough?

I am currently building a new engine for a project.

I have yet to decide if I am going to get a Camaro 105A alternator or a 145A truck alternator.

Do you suggest me to go straight for a 145a truck alternator instead of a 105A one?

Thanks for stating this. I was a little confused at first because their is mention that the dr44 (not to be confused with the dr44g) has only 2 prongs. However after doing some digging around, there are some dr44's out there with 4 prongs. And being a newer unit, you can get brand new GM ones for a reasonable price.

Here's a link comparing the AD244 to the 4 pin DR44 (not DR44g). Looks like the same 4 prong connection.

I already have a AD244 on my ride, it lasted a good amount of miles, but it's on it's way out. I'll be purchasing a new DR44 soon, but it seems that Stuinkuwait is happy with his so far.

What year did GM switch to the pwm controlled alternators? Are the newer 4 pin units pwm as well like the 2 wire units?

145 amp has a black band about 1/2 inch thick going around the entire case

105 amp does not.

My OEM alt just crapped out on me so looks like this is the way to go!

Question... what about the 200 amp alt, that I saw mentioned. Why is the 145 a better option than the 200?

Thanks!

with the 200 amp you would have to upgrade your power and ground wire to a thicker gauge..

for the 145 you dont have to

Upgrading the power and ground aren't a bad idea either way. The 145 is a nice drop in replacement though.

Okay... I am forgetting what I've read and really don't want to read 40 pages again, lol... So in a quick nutshell...

For the 145a alt, what year and model trucks are the best to pull from? What is the part code, K**?

For the 200a alt, what year and model trucks?

And I should do the BIG3 regardless, but definitely for the 200a setup.

Thanks guys!

I got a new ACDelco Alt from a 2004 escalade (145 amp) and that's what is in my Camaro.
