Is this what you guys think my problem is too? My battery is fine just replaced the power steering pump and alternator at the same time. I start it up seems like everything thing is fine then about half way down the road when u accelerate the voltage would go down in the red. I replace the exciter wire too. The alternator that i bought from o reillys this the 3rd one with warranty took it back out and tested pass at both auto zone and o reillys. Could it still have something wrong with it?????

alright the stock alternator from oreillys was crap so they let me get a 2003 silverado 5.3 alternator instead. It was kind of pain in the *** to make it fit but it did and you might have to extend ur exciter wire i didnt cause i order a new one from ebay. I forget about the pulley and didnt switch it out or have the stock one. The stock belt will not work so I have a buddy who works at auto zone we manage to get a belt that will work. I havent had any issues yet but we will see....
The alternator item number from o reillys is 01-1873 and the belt that works with it that i bought from auto zone is 800k6 hopes this helps some people

There are no extra parts unless you want a new exciter wire because when removing the stock one the wire gets ripped out usually. You may have to lengthen the wire to make it fit for the truck alt. There are three bolts that hold the stock alt in place the truck only has two the front ones so, that back bolt which sucks to get to anyway wont need it. You might want to take the stock pulley and put it on the truck alt because I didn't and had to get a new longer belt.
Heres a link for that plug in exciter wire

But then I guess if the stock truck alternators were built with only 2 holes, then they were meant for 2 holes, and 2 holes is fine... unless your talking to a woman of course...

I just read the last two pages of questions ALL QUESTIONS THAT ARE ASKED ARE ANSWERED IN THE FIRST POST.
To sum up some of the answers:
-you don't need the bolt on the back it fit's just fine and works just fine without it
-it's a 4 wire CONNECTOR, (that is specified because there is one that has a 2 pin connector and that is the wrong alternator)
-only 1 of the 4 wires in that connector is used. you can buy a connector that has all 4 wires pinned or a connector that has just the one wire pinned. if it has all 4 clip the 3 unused ones.
-buy a new exciter wire so that you can extend the factory one a little, and also you should replace it regardless because they go bad..

Got Mine Done!
Thanks so much to all who have suggested and tested this one. And BIG BIG thanks to sjsingle1 for helping me with every question in the world. Talk about making life easier!
Finally got mine installed this past week in my 2002 and also did the Big 3 while I was in there. No more dimming lights or flickering dashboard. SO HAPPY.
Found myself a 253 amp alternator built with WAI Transpo - 80A diodes - big monster! Looks like they started making these late 2011. (had to snoop through a few dealer catalogs to find out the rest of the specs - ha!)
And about that Big 3 - I would like to know the name of the engineer was that was having a bad day and decided to stick that ground up over the starter. Are they kidding me with that?!? If my cable had been long enough I would have tried to install that ground where the back alternator bracket used to live.
So happy with the results tho!
And enjoy - Here's a couple pics of the alternator/beast.

I would like to know the exact type of truck and year model that I can obtain a brand new 130 amp atl. is the 130 amp alt a ad244?
I looked at many year model silverados Rock auto and only saw 105 amp atls.
Please provide a link at Rock auto and Summit so I can get a NEW alt.
Thanks
