Default Differential options for stock 10-bolt in my '00 Z28

I'm going to be installing 4.10's soon, and I'm thinking that's also the time to change out the diff.

I believe all the LS1's have a posi diff from the factory, but which brand might vary (not sure)

A friend recommended a Powertrax Locker which he says was not nearly as harsh as a Detriot Locker, but held up to all kinds of abuse.

I did a search but couldn't really find many people running this diff on a stock rear end.

Any thoughts? I'm not ready to spend any more on a 12-bolt or Ford 9", so this thread is really to discuss:

- Should I upgrade the diff while I do gears?
- If so, what diff? I'm leaning towards this Powertrax.

Thanks, in advance.

I wouldn't worry about it. if you're keepin the 10bolt then get a TA cover and a girdle to help it out. But that's just a band-aid fix until you can afford to upgrade the whole rear end

No diff unless you are going to be a dedicated street/autox car

When people say the 10 bolt breaks easily... what exactly breaks? The spider gears?

The same friend who recommended this diff said he went through 2 sets of spider gears in his blown S10 w/ 10-bolt, before he finally decided to add this diff... after that, it stood up to all his abuse.

More often than not its the pinion getting a shave. Simply not enough metal in a 7.625 inch ring and pinion to make them worth anything.

FWIW I have the fancy $500 Eaton Posi in my 87 w/ a built and stalled 700r4. However, after a couple bad ring and pinion installs(noise) I could have almost bought a 9 inch once the smoke cleared.

So much for a budget build...
