Default gas mileage loss with 228/228

looking into either of these three cams, one of them will be matched with PRC stage one ls6 heads. how bad is the gas mileage loss for any of you guys with these cams, and which one would you all recommend the most?

texas speed
224R 224/224 .581"/.581" 112 lsa

texas speed
228R 228/228 .588"/.588" 112 lsa

thunder racing
224/224 .563/.563 112 lsa.

id prefer the 228/228 but i want to minimize gas mileage drop as much as possible, car is mostly city driven. also there will be no stall for a long time

gas milage with a cam is all in the tune and the way you drive your car. i have a 227/235 with PRC heads and i get 18 or so on the street and 26-28 on the highway. if you got a good tuner then you shouldnt have a problem. now a cam usually drops your MPG, but a good set of heads will gain you better MPG

Best cam for a stock stall is the stock cam, High stall T.C. FIRST, then get the 228/228 112lsa cam.

Lolololol at stock converter with a cam.

You will enjoy driving your car, you will really enjoy sitting at stop signs and red lights as well as cruising below 1500rpms.

You have a 100% daily driver and want to put a cam in it without a converter. Completely wrong thinking. Have you searched? No.

Mpg between those will be within 1-2mpg max.

Watch yourself.

I'm on my phone as well as watching a movie with the lady, more than anything I was subscribing to the thread so I could help you when I had some extra time and a bit easier to respond.
You think I got 7,874 posts by doing that?

Go to the automatic transmission section and browse a little.. I have explained myself over and over in there.

Posting what you posted isn't going to make me rush to get on the comp and type three paragraphs to teach you something when you could search and find the answer in ten minutes.

You can't run that big of a cam with a stock converter because usually it will push through the brakes while stopped. You may get some bucking and surging at low rpms. And, your car will be a dog in the lower rpms. A cam like that is going to be less efficient in the lower rpms, and a bigger converter will be needed to move up into the cam's rpm power-band.

Swap a 6 speed in and then grab any of the above cams, MUCH better gas mileage.

But seriously...listen to Lemons, man knows his automatic cars.

You can run any of the above cams with a 2800 converter. However, it won't be an optimal setup but it will get you by. I would prefer a 3200 minimum, but 3600-4k would be optimum. I had a 3200 and a TR224 and it was a good DD type setup.

2800 would be worthless imo. If you are going to spend the money on a stall and install (unless you do it), I say go 4k. I had never been in a stalled car or driven one before I got my Yank SS4k installed this summer. I was used to it by the time I got home from the shop. You will LOVE it!! Anytime I hit the gas it just puts a smile on my face.

This is a great combination and should not be overlooked. You could even do a 220 duration and 3000 stall and have a very strong ride.

A 4k converter isn't for everyone
