Honest review of Tyhoon 85mm intake manifold.
I couldn't be happier!!!! For the record,, I had a stock ls6 with home ported tbody, stock 85mmMAF,descreened, rest of mods in sig.
I bought the polished 85mm typhoon intake off ebay for $400 shipped. There was some hurdles . The kit came with 10 valley pan bolts. Wrong size, had to spend 10 bucks for the proper bolts. The intake sits lower than my ls6 did. Maybe this is why others had sealing issues. Used the non silicone felpro gaskets. No issues sealing at all. Vacuum tee fitting and MAP sensor port where perfect.
Now the fuel rail kit. The braided cross over hose was to long and rubbed my hood. I had to shorten it. The fitting that connects the feed hose to the rails ( the one you need the tool for) was to small. I have a hose clamp connecting my stock fuel line to the rail til I get the right fitting and use all threaded fittings.
I also installed a brand new LS7 throttle body. It has 4 bolts, typhoon has 3 bolts. Used an adaptor from CBM. and wiring harness from caspers. I have an appt to retune last week of august. But as is, th e has a noticeable gain in the midrange. I only got to 6900rpms twice, but felt stronger up top also. No change in low end. I know it will get even better with a retune. Looks are second to none. Heat sink? If so, didn't matter. Car has more power for sure.

I worked it some. But not nearly as much as i wanted too. Will do that soon. Don't know why my pics are sideways. There OK in my gallery.
I didn't have great expectations for this intake. I pleasantly surprised. Hows yours working out? Sell the 90mm intake? That's a good deal you offerme

It's nice to hear something positive about this intake. I'll be installing the same one soon, because it is what I have. Do you have the part number for the Fel Pro gaskets you used?

I might have it sold very soon, along with the Holley TB.

There are two versions of gaskets that were shipped for
these manifolds. The old green ones were a problem, the
newer ones with the silicone bead-ring are good. PP sent
me the new style for the asking. They really should bundle
the low profile button-head bolts with it to make it simple.

Good to see a review from someone who is actually running one and not just chest thumping from the LS6 worshipers.
Look forward to seeing a graph or two. Do you have any to compare the curve to from before the swap?

Do you have any timeslips from your car to prove this? dyno sheets? anything? Other than just internet hearsay?

Power? My redline is 6900, my tune shows power drop off at 6400. This intake will pull to 7000rpms. The tyhoon with the ls7 throttle already has a noticable gain over my ls6 especially the mid range and top end. And I haven't even got my tune adjusted yet.

how do the ports look ?how well do the intake ports line up with the heads ?had a pp intake for my sbc,it was a air gap knock off.the ports needed alot of epoxy and grinding to match the heads.my elderbrock air-gap took 1 hr of filing to match up.

I should have taken pics. Ports looked real good. Lined up with the heads just fine. Flanges were extremely straight. Just takes some fabrication to get the fuel line rite. And had the wrong bolts for the valley pan gasket. The quality looked just fine. These manifolds got a kick in quality control dept a few years ago. From bad reviews.
There's articles from ls1 tech, and GM performance.com all showing 20 or more horsepower gains over the ls6. Other typhoon users here also claim gains. Yet typhoon bashers will just hate on this manifold without any real knowledge. The heat sink is also a non issue. The tuner will take care of the VE tables and IAC counts. I feel a noticeable increase especially mid range. My cam loves it.
