Default OEM Crank pulley VS Aftermarket

In the process of building a 418ci L92 (going in a truck) and has come to the point where im told I need to get a new crank pulley to go with all the other new shiny nice parts..

After researching here and other places and getting opinions from several people it seems from what I've found (which could be wrong) that most people are running the stocker and if not the stocker the SLP seems to be more common than the ATI..

So when I brought up that fact that I may not need one, the stocker might be just fine to the engine builder(s) (friend/family) I was told I was cheaping out now and why would I cheap out now if I haven't the rest of the motor and how the stock one may not hold the power... and just because it was read "on the internet" doesn't mean its true.. I cant see to get a straight answer..

So I want to know what everyone is running on their built. or stock motors and why..

Stock?
Aftermarket?

What you're running and why you're running it would be very helpful..

I don't mind getting the part, just don't want to spend it.. if I don't have to..

A stock crank pulley "may not hold the power"? I'd suggest not taking advice from people who believe that makes sense.

I have a Powerbond on my car, just because I wanted to go "max effort" on all stock internals and see what sort of power my car would make before I started internal surgery. Aftermarket underdrive pulleys aren't inordinately expensive, allow the engine to spin up a tiny bit faster due to less rotating mass that has to be driven, and allows a bit more efficient power transfer, again because of the lower rotating mass.

A stock crank pulley would work perfectly fine, but if you want a little bit more power, an underdrive pulley is a relatively inexpensive way to get it.

We have built many motors using various different pullies, I would say that that most common (around here anyway) would be either stock, our brand, or powerbond. Definitely worth the gains to upgrade in my opinion.

OP, what accessories are you using with your swap?

Truck accessories, eagle crank and internals

Thanks for the responses. Also is there any truth to stroked motors shouldn't run UD pulleys?

From what I have read the ATI is better at cancelling out the harmonics of a large cam

IMO not necessary, but if you're going to get one your first priority should be a better than stock dampener, any power gain secondary. Myself I like the Fluidampr it has no parts to wear out and it does a better job then the stock pulley, the ATI is nice, supposedly better above 6k, and is fully rebuildable.

Heres a link to our pulleys that will work with those accessories
http://www.texas-speed.com/c-211-pulleys.aspx

We have run several underdrive pulleys on stroked application without issue!

Slightly more horsepower to the wheels, and the engine will spin up slightly faster, due to less rotating mass that needs to be spun. Not a major power-adder, but it's relatively inexpensive to gain a bit of horsepower when you've done the other bolt-ons.

Screw getting a stock one. Ive replaced 20+ of them for the rubber popping out causing them to wobble and squeak there asses off.

Might as well go with a good one while its out of car. (especially on corvettes) they are real fun to replace lol

ATI if you can afford it and you go over 6500 on a frequent basis. A lot of guys have had issues in the past with the ASP's throwing the belt. I myself have a powerbond and like it. Motor does rev slightly faster, and it hasn't affected my battery charging at all that I can tell.

One of my friends runs a stock balancer, with the AC pulley machined off to where the only belt ribs are the main drive on it...has ran it for years with his nitrous motor and now with a 1000rwhp+ turbo setup...car ran 8.92 at 159.6mph earlier in the year on about 860rwhp...looking to go faster now that it has a boost controller and more power!
