Default New intake at SEMA: MSD Airforce

Looking at this thing it might have some serious potential if the price isn't astronomical. Seems to be kind of a mix between a Fast design and a cross ram design.

Let's hope it's not another Holley Street Warrior. Looks promising though.

I am in the market for a Fast 92, saving up money now and most likely will be buying come early spring. Hope this is good competition to Fast and competitively priced. The article says it is coming out in January. Two things we need are price and apples to apples tests against Fast.

I like how it's not so damn tall and will work without having to cut the cowl to all hell. Also interested in pricing.

Thanks for posting that, first I've heard of it. Looks like the perfect solution for those of us with an ls that don't have the older car engine swap room like I have . I'd guess them to not have to cost much more than a fast design.
I'm with everyone else wondering if they'll actually release it & on time ?????? Both the NRE X-ram & the Vararam vrx cross ram intakes have toyed with our patience.

I spoke with a gm engineer on another forum about my cross ram dual plenum project. He says factory intakes are lacking on the bell mouth / air entry space area, so the external of this looks promising as an improvement in that aspect.

If it makes the same or better power than a F.A.S.T. manifold and it's less expensive, they better gear up to make a lot of them.

Surely MSD has been at a loss because cars don't have distributors anymore. Maybe this will help their bottom line.

nice to see fast wont be the only option on the block anymore. I'm not entirely sure though it will provide any more clearance that a fast. My 102 is shorter than the ls2 rails on it which come pretty close to the cowl.

This actually has indents so the ls2 rails will fit through it, so i still question on if it will be able to clear an fbody

We are looking forward to testing them also. I believe we are looking to get one fairly early for testing. We are hoping for good results from what the early reports have shown so far.

Thanks

So, who's gonna install a high performance intake manifold like this and retain the stock fuel rails? To accommodate stock rails, they had to create these deep slots in the shell.

1: They look bad-it breaks up the smooth look of the design.
2: Does it affect the performance and airflow in any way?

The indentions don't bother me, just annoyed it says a ls2 fuel rail has to be used on the ls1/ls6 applications...if I have to buy a rail I would rather buy aftermarket. I doubt ls2 rails are plentiful.

Here is a good video from SEMA. LS1 retail is $949 so that answers one question. For LS1 they mentioned you have to use an LS2 rail or their system.

Two remaining questions for me. Will it fit in a stock 4th gen f body. I have to assume it will at this point. And how good is it?

Cool looking forward to it. the testing was a little confusing when I watched. Do you really think it will pick up 25hp over a 102 fast? I hope i dont end up kicking myself for getting a fast unit. I was thinking they would be on par with eachother.

I use the stock ls2 rail on my car and so do a lot of people. Not everyone wants aftermarket rails or want to spring for the extra money. 60 bucks for a gm rail is a lot cheaper than 150-200 for a fast kit plus the hoses and fittings. In fact id say most people who use fasts still use stock rails. I was merely using the ls2 rails as a height reference. My 102 fits under the rails and barely clears the cowl. If this thing indents which means its taller than the rails idk how well it will fit the fbody cowl. But we'll see.

Ya sadly thats the way it goes, the ls2, ls3, l76 etc ALL use the same rail so its not necessarily an ls2 rails rather just the "new" style gm rail. The ls7 is an exception because of its head/intake design. They can be had pretty cheap I picked mine up for 40 bucks. Thats a lot cheaper than 200 fro a fast kit plus all the fittings.

Ouch lol so much for being cheaper, and I would think they would design it so it would. But as I said my 102 fits UNDER the ls2 rails and it is really close to the cowl. The fact that this has to indent to clear the ls2 rails has me thinking maybe it wont.

Can't wait to see some results. I was thinking about jumping to a LSXRT since I have room, would be cool if this was comparable because it's much less ugly.

If that's true about it being that much taller than the Fast 102 then I could definitely see potential for it to outperform it.
