Anyone know why we haven't heard anything about the dorman intake that was ported/cleaned up or whatever?

Probably never dyno'd it and even if he did he probably doesn't have any before numbers to compare them to.

Please do! There are a lot of us wondering how it stacks up to an OEM piece on a stock/bolt-on build.

it would certainly be nice if someone could test the untouched dorman vs stock ls1, but what we really could use is a test of ported dorman vs an ls6--especially on a fairly modded motor. i'm not sure who wants to try it, since it's not exactly a returnable item once you've taken a sanding bit to the insides. hopefully a reputable shop can step up to the plate.

Peak Speed Shop needs to port and test one of these. If they can prove gains of say 5-10 hp on a cam only car, and 10-15 hp on a mild heads and cam car I'd say they could sell ported ones for $500-600.

I bought 1 ported the runners and opened up the 73mm TB opening to match my TB smoothed and painted. It looks like a real good piece after some easy cleanup. I replaced a ls1 intake with it and u can feel a small difference jus driving the car. Won't have any dyno numbers until the weather warms up.

Well I caved and ordered one from parts geek. $294 shipped after the $15 dollar off code. They had 4 more in stock. Crossing my fingers someone posts up some favorable results with it.

Thanks ultimateorangeSS. As far as performance numbers the car does feel a lot stronger than with the ls1 intake. It's untuned but I'd say it would hafta be 15hp or so to even be able to feel it. The ls1 intake was possibly holding the car back as well it's got a ported TB comp .610- 240@.050 cam longtubes 3" exhaust, FTP lid. About all the bolt ons.

Please do keep us in the loop on your results sawblade99Z. Been watching this thread for a while with my finger on the trigger but wont pull it until i hear good results from more than one person. Porting these things sound pretty easy if you've got some dremel skills, true?

I posted up in the other thread and gave my initial thoughts on it. Basically I sanded the outside down and started working on the tb opening last night. I think it can be taken out to 78 mm without screwing up the gasket area. Then I'll be using a fast 90 porting write up in here for reference to work on what I can reach in each runner. I've got the Dremel to do so, but I'll need a longer sanding roll and probably an extension to reach all the way to the end of the wedge. Just need that and a steady hand. From what I understand keeping the wall straight is the hardest part. It'll be going on a heads/cam lq9 so we'll definitely see how it performs lol won't have any before/after numbers though.

If someone would do a test for stock ls1 intake vs the dorman vs the ls6 all untouched, then the ls6 and dorman both ported, I'd be so happy.

Those of you looking to see more pics check out the Dorman thread. I've finished the tb inlet on mine and got the outside sanded for paint. Will be starting on the bottom shell as soon as I get the proper attachments.

I am subscribing for the dyno results.

For those that currently have one, does it look like the Dorman can be modified to accommodate the EGR tube for those of us that need to pass visual emissions testing?

The Dorman already has the EGR port, along with a cap for it. I'm not going to be using mine on this build, but I willl for sure use it on my next more budget minded build.
